Does sound strange for them to change something that is in his contract. Tell him to start working on all the requirements for taking the E-5 exam anyways, so there will be no holdups when that time arrives.

NavyDad, sorry to say you will have to get a pass to drive onto the base. Drivers License, insurance card and registration are all required along with a sponsor. Your son will be your sponsor. Someone with a military ID is required to be in the vehicle while you drive onto the base. I have been through the ringer with being allowed onto the base. If the visitor center is closed they should give you a temp pass at the gate. Not always so. Depends on who is working the gate. If you have to walk onto the base like I had at times it wasn't bad except for those cold windy rainy days. Its a duck shoot if you don't have a pass. The visitor center closes at 5 PM or 17:00 hours. Get the pass and request it for the full weekend Friday through Sunday. Gary T.
