About me:
We have a son who graduated from boot camp in November. We are very proud of him and his decision.
I am here to support or represent my:
Son/Daughter
Stage of (Sailor’s) Navy Career?
Enlisted
When I heard “Navy,” I:
Needed to learn more about it
From my experience with the Navy, the most important thing I learned was:
It can be a good choice for your son or daughter. When we found out our son was interested in the Navy we were less than thrilled. I'm a researcher so I started looking into it and talking to others and gradually started to come around to the idea that it could be a really good choice for my son. I think the jury is still out until boot camp is over, but we are hopeful that this is going to work out great!
Through this Navy experience, I now believe:
It was positive and maturing. Our relationship has grown stronger.

Dear Kim,
How nice to be visiting family for the holidays. I don't have any family and either side. So it's just the 5 of us. Now we're down to 4, with out Kim.

I'm so stuffed. We have so much turkey left over. I'm not really a turkey lover. I like the bones though, I love the neck

I wish I could either post pone the surgery or move it up. I have been evaluated for this surgery over six months. The audiologist has to make sure my hearing was as close to deaf as possible. Even the hearing aide was useless.I have a hearing aide on my left ear, which helps a little. It's my right ear that's deaf.

The thing is, the surgery has to be done before the end of the year. Our insurance gets changed and the new insurance doesn't accept this surgery. I just got approved for the surgery, two weeks ago.

After a month, the device gets activated, so I'm completly deaf until all the activation and adjustments are done. But, I'll be in Virginia. The ENT doctor told me that I can get activated whenever I return home, hey works for me! HAHA! I'll have my hearing aide on while I visit Kim. HAHHA!

I wish your daughter well, That is hard work, dedicationg those long hours for something she really loves. Years ago, Kim took up gymnatics for years. The dance studio had competition every year. I was friendly with one of the mothers, her daughter was in the competition. She told me what went on and what the dance team was up against in the competition. I'll keep your daughter in prayer.

I used to get my house set up looking like Santa's house! HAHA! I don't bother anymore.
Doug puts up some lights outside., but the living room isn't as adorable as I used to bother with. I can't climb anymore, to decorate with the garland.

That's about all my adventure for today, oh I dyed my hair, Whoppie" I'm hoping for lighter brown. Usually my hair turns penny red, no matter what company I use.

Take care and God bless,
Love,
Barbara

Dear Kim,
That's great Corey called. That's always pleasant to hear from our children! That would be wonderful if he came home for Christmas. Last year, after Kim started in Virignia, she didn't give us her new address. By the time she did, her Christmas gifts were after the New Years! That was her fault! HAHA!

She moves into the apartment on Dec 6. From the pictures on the apartment website, it really looks nice. But, I don't think it's in the greatest of neighborhoods. I'll find out when I'm there. The boyfriend is supposed to move in with her. I'm hoping something does click with them! HAHA! As for her job, she's bored. She's like me, she's not a desk person, she likes to run around! HAHA! I told her, take advantage of the training the Navy offers. Go for a better paying job for one thing. I'll tell her, if she could work this out and take another A School course, I can take the baby in the summer ...HA,HA! I'm looking forward to start buying things for my little guy.

I know it's predicted for a bad winter. I hope your storm isn't too bad tomorrow. I pray to God there's no snow or ice, when Darlene and I rush Kim to the hospital! My luck, it'll be a blizzard! Kim said the hospital is about a half hour away from where she's moving to.

Your like me, FOOD! HAHA! What gets me mad, a few forks, and I'm stuffed. Yet I'm so heavy, this I can't understand. I don't eat juke food, or soda. I eat healthy food, drink water, no cookies or cake, nothing is in my house. I can't trust myself! HAHHA! Yet I'm fat.

Let me get going. This message box now has a limited of words, like the private message. I hate it! Many times, I have to cut my messages in two parts, it's ridiculous.
Take care and God bless,
Love,
Barbara

Dear Kim,
Welcome back home. Corey looks so handsome in his uniform!! I'm so happy that you had a great weekend with him. Isn't that ceremony something!! I know the weekend always flies by. I hated watching Kim walk back, to the base, when we droped her off on that Sunday.

I'm surprised the temperature was warm. When we went, the weather was crazy. Abundant sunshine, then we'd be standing in a flash flood. That happened a few times. Can't forget the tornado watch every night!

The 3 D ultrasound, have you ever seen one? It's fantastic! A close and clear picture of the baby's face. Kim sent 21 shots of him, each one in a different pose, some had his tongue out, he sucked on his hand and foot! I can't wait to eat this boy up!!! He's gorgeous!!
For some reason I can't e-mail the images, There's a couple of moms here that were interested in seeing the images, so I sent them to Kim's Facebook!! HAHA!!

If your curious let me know, I'll send you a private message and tell you Kim's Face book account. The only thing is you need to join. I joined only because I knew Kim was on there. Otherwise I never go on myself. The image is unbeleivable. In a few shots the baby must have moved, his skin looked distorted a bit, Then in the next shot, it was clear again! HAAH!!

Kim got an apartment, I'm glad for that. Her boyfriend comes home tomorrow. He was out to sea. She was invited to a homecokked Thanksgiving dinner. That was nice.

It's only the four of us, if my son grace's us with his presence! HAHA!
Let me get going. I have an early day tomorrow. I have my pre-op for the surgery. I love nothing more than to have my blood drawn. I'm such a wimp, I will pass out. It's very embarrassing. Yet, the irony of that, I was a phlebotomist for years, drawing blood. HAHA!
. I'm so glad your back, I missed you! HAhA!
Take care and God bless,
Love,
Barbara

I just read your question about your grandma and her foot. I, too, cannot stand and I was seated in the handicap area in front of my son's division. I showed my handicap placard upon entering the gate and they directed my vehicle in another direction than the others. I left 30 min. early from my hotel and still there was a line to get into the base. Once I got close enough to the drill hall, I saw they had a drop off zone for people who needed to get into wheelchairs. It appeared the people were dropping off their family and had their own wheelchairs. We parked very close and I had my own mobility schooter. However, I did see sailors with wheelchairs (I assume provided by the base) taking handicap people inside. I just couldn't tell if the wheelchair was able to be kept inside the drill hall for the person to sit on or if they needed the wheelchair back to transport other people. (I think they took the chair back). The recruit in charge of helping the division who stands in front brings a plastic chair (or 2?) for you to sit on. The handicap person + one other is allowed in this section. The rest of my family had to sit in the bleachers behind me. Because we got there so early, they were right down in the front bleachers and we could pass my binoculars to them if my niece got up and handed them to them (my niece was on the floor with me). It was a long wait and to use the handicap women's restroom would have been a long walk if I had not had a scooter. I suggest you rent your own wheelchair for the occasion and take it in the trunk so you can wheel your grandmother and get a temporary handicap placard for your windshield. That way you can park close and don't have to worry about giving them back their wheelchair (but I don't really know if you have to give up their wheelchair that takes you into the drill hall - you'll have to call PAO to ask) Have you gone to the FAQ's on the website to read what they have to say about handicap accessibility?

Dear Kim,
I can't wait to see Corey in his uniform, when you place your pictures up! HAHA!
I always over pack, I don't know why. We stayed at the Ramanda Inn, and it had an indoor swimming pool. I swam twice in it.

Where are you staying?
Don't forget the list I sent you, on what to bring to graduation. Be there early, seating for the Divisions is limited.

We had Darlene's girlfriend Bernie take care of the dogs and cats. She's to only one we know who isn't scared of the lizards! HAHA!

You're familiar with the area, that's good. We weren't too bad, didn't really get lost! HAHA! I wanted to go to the TV show the Steve Wilkos show, when Kim graduated. But the show was on vocation in the months of June and July. Kim graduated in June.
Well, I got a free T-shirt out of it! HAHA! Now the show moved closer to here, I'd love to attend it in Connecticut.

With the Navy, you never know what they'll do. Corey could get diffrent orders. That happened to Kim, she was supposed to go to Virginia for A School. It was changed, and she remained in Great Lakes for A School. Now she's in Virginia! HAHA!

I wish Cory all the best in A School. I hope he doesn't wait too long before starting it. Many times the new Sailors are put on Hold for a while before getting classed up for A School. So in case that does happen, don't worry, it's very common.

Kim wants to come home, I told her no, it's too much, God forbid anything happened in her travels. I'll be there on Dec 28, so we'll have New Years together.. I have to talk to my little guy on holding off until Jan! HAHA!! I am hope and praying to much that he's not born until after New Years. December is really a lousy month for a birthday.

Let me get going. Don't work too hard.! HAHA!
Corey will do fine and pass Battlestation.!
Take care and God bless,
Love,
Barbara

Dear Kim,
How are you today? I hope you feel better and your child. Oh this weather, even here, this is how people get sick. Here it's raining cold and miserbale outside, this past week.

I keep telling Kim to talk to her girlfriend about her sypmtoms, they're due the same day! What are the chances of that happening!! HAHA! I'm racking my brain trying to remember what it's like to be pregnant, 20 years ago. From everything Kim has been telling me, tha last few weeks, it does all sound normal. You know what it is to, she's alone, the boy friend is out to sea until the 24.

She was scheduled for that 3 D ultrasound. The technicain had to cancel, with all the rain they've been having, there's flooding. Oh well!! I was looking forward to maybe Kim sending me another ultra sound graph on my e-mail.

I'm going to smack my kid yet. Do you know, she had no intentions of mailing me the CD disc of this 10 minute 3D ultrasound. I told her, after she viewed it and her friends, if would be nice to mail it to me, so I can see it and show it off too. In fact, my husband could probably burn a disc copy. I was planning to return it when I go down to Virginia.

Let me go, my older one Darlene just walked in the door and announced she needs the computer.

Feel better my dear friend.
Take care and God bless,
Love,
Barbara

Dear Kim,
How are you doing? My Kim seems to have come to her senses today. SHe was driving me nuts. She was determined to come up for Christmas.

The Meet and Greets are always nice. You'll enjoy it.
The Navy used to be strict with only the four tickets, I don't know if they still are. You know what it is, when you walk into the graduation all, there will be Sailors standing at attention next to Divisions signs. You'll look for your sons Division section, but, unless your early, the seats will be filled up. We were there at 7 AM, with the shuttle. Fortunately, my walker has a seat, so I sat on that during the ceremony. There were no seats at all, in Kim's Division section.

Kim was suppose to have the 3D ultrasound today, but didn't have the money. SHe is expecting to have it done on Friday. She said that the sonogram goes for 10 minnutes and is placed on a CD. I wonder if she'll get a graph as well, to e-mail me. I can't wait.
The graph she sent me, looks no different than the ones I had when I was pregnant.

Kim called and asked me if how she was feeling was normal. I'm trying to think, my last pregnancy was 20 years ago. ! HAHHA! I wrote her that it sounds all normal. I asked how she felt, she's neaseous and feels crappy. I wrote her, "Oh the joys of pregnancy" HHAAH! I told her to ask her pregnant girlfriend if she's experiecing the same pain around the naval. The girls are due the same day.. I vaguely do remember the naval area hurting, and I just rubbed it. I told Kim, the baby is getting bigger and there's less room in there! HHA!

Let me get going. You stay well.
Take care and God bless,
Love,
Barbara

Dear Kim,
WOW, you're having some turn out for your meet and greet. I'm surprised mine was only maybe 30 sets of parents. And it was the PIR not even the Division alone, but all the gradauting parents.. There's about 80 recrutis in each Division. Ten Divisions graduate every Friday.

Good for you. I'll keep you in prayer with your driving. About how many hours are you expecting to be on the road.?
You're right about the inspection being time consuming. The cars do get inpected, trunks and hood opened, and they check underneath the car. Then your inspection, with your ID and pocketbook searched. We did the shuttle too. Nice and easy, we were driven back too, no problem! HAHA!

Well, Corey should be in his navy blue uniform. When Kim graduated, she was in all white. White and I are not friends!HAHA! I had Kim sit on the towel every where we went. I was so worried about her uniform getting dirty.
Also be careful about your makeup, when your hugging Corey. Those uniforms have to remain spotless.

Good for you, with all your vocation time. How'd you manage that? That's nice, I used to like taking long weekends.

Not much going on here. The weather looks nice. I should maybe take a walk. It's so boring by myself though! UGH!

Stay well.
Take care and God bless,
Love,
Barbara

Dear Kim,
How did today treat you? HAHA! I was shoocked, m girlfriend called me over for coffee, after dinner. That was unheard of. SHe's allways with her boyfriend, So that was nice.
Usualy Sundays are the most boring day for me. My husband has the computer all day and night. My older daughter has the TV, watrching football. I used to go to church, no matter what. Once my children truned 18, they stopped going, and I no longer drive. So I'm stuck. So I sleep in on Sundays, borring!

I asked Kim if the boyfriend plans to buy some stuff, like a crib. I told her, we'll help her out, but it would be nice if the guy forked over some money. She said he would, I hope so.
I remebered to ask her how tall is he. I almost fell off my chair. He's about 6' 3". Kim is only 5' 1" ! HAHA!

To be honest, I don't don't trust anyone with a baby. That's why I quit my job, to stay with my oldest daughter. I have no family on either side. When my son, the baby, turned 10, I had the neigbor watch him for 2 hours when I came home from work. My kids don't know about babysitters. I worked, but I started when my son was in kindergaden. I was home before he was. I started full time work when my son was 10.

That sounds great about your meet and greet. I hope you have a good turn out. Where are you holding it?

My meet and greet, I think only 30 parents showed out. It was still nice. All of us proud and anxious! HAAHA!!

Let me give you a quick rundown for graduation. The airport is O'Hara, and you do need a car.

1) Be at there early, like 7:30 (ish) AM. The security line is long. If you drive in, that line is as long.

2) Bring phot ID, camera and tissues

3)Bring the blank check I told you about. Just in case you do wind up paying for those Navy pictures.

4)Bring a towel for Corey to sit on.

5)Bring some old clothes for Corey. If he has the time to spend in the hotel room, he can be comfortable.

Let run. Stay well.
Take care and God bless,
Love,
Barbara
