About me:
Hello, my husband, son and I currently live in West islip, NY. I am a Sales Rep selling advertising for a local paper. My son has joined the Navy and will be leaving for training April 7th. He is very excited about getting started and we are very proud of him and we support his decision completely.
I am here to support or represent my:
Son/Daughter
Stage of (Sailor’s) Navy Career?
Enlisted
When I heard “Navy,” I:
Was proud and encouraged it
From my experience with the Navy, the most important thing I learned was:
To be supportive of my son's decision and gain more knowledge of his choice so my husband, myself and my family can be here for him when he leaves and be there for him while he is away.
Through this Navy experience, I now believe:
It was positive and maturing. Our relationship has grown stronger.

Becky, just checking on how your son is getting along. Hope he is more at ease. My son has been in since Nov 2006 and yes he was told that he would be going to Iraq or Afghan. This did not happen right away, but he is currently getting ready to go in mid Sept. But as he has told us in the past and as we learn it is all subject to change. I will emphasis what seabee mom wanda stated, have faith in your son and the navy. Their role is important no matter where the Navy sends them. Be proud of your son and tell him every chance you get.

Becky, I feel your anxiety as ecer Mom on this site does. But, unfortunately when you join the military esp. during war time, our children might and probably will be deployed, it is just a known fact. My son is going to be deployed in Feb 2010. He is very excited about it- and of course on the other hand- I am SCARED to death. But have faith... have faith in your son, have faith in the Navy and encourage him not to quit....The Seabees are not just sent to Iraq and Afghanistan, they are sent all over and have serve a very important role- Be Proud and tell him everyday that you are so Proud of him. THe Navy has a huge support group- encourage him to use that support group. I will pray for you and your son and again have faith my friend.

Becky, I have been in the Navy for 6 years and been deployed to the Gulf twice, when I first came in I was scared about delpolyment or going overseas but the more time you spend in and realize thats our job and it gets easier! I would go back on a deployment in a heartbeat, im now a recruiter. My little brother joined the Navy last year while he was in "A" school after bootcamp they told him he would be for sure be going to Japan he was scared but tried to see the bright side of things, he is young single why not!?. He signed up for the Navy and knew there would always be a risk of going overseas, then he got his orders for San Diego. "They" can tell your son he is going to Iraq all day long but until he gets his orders on paper then its not set in stone! Seabees dont just get sent to Iraq or Afghanistan. He could aslo try to get top of his class to pick orders, thats how I got orders to San Diego out of my A school.

Your right if he gives up he will regret it! When I felt like giving up it was my parents that motivated me to stick with it! Not to give up and assured me it would get better. When your new to the Navy its a new world and life style to get adjusted to but when you do you realize you were scared for nothing! Tell you son to talk to a chaplin or someone in his chain of command about his fears. They will help him get threw his depression! One great thing about the Navy is there is always someone to help mentor and motivate you to keep going and not give up! It will get easier for him and your family thats a promise! :) Dont let him give up!

Hi Becky, all is well with me and my guys. John is in the middle of Battle Stations right now and Matt is still in C-school. Yes, the Navy likes to remove wisdom teeth. I think they have a thing for them. lol 2 of my 3 sailors had theirs removed in BC. Glad to hear Eric is doing well, I know like me you must be very proud. They are starting a wonderful journey. Stay in touch.

Morning Becky, So today is Erics big day. It will be a long day for him. Just remember to be supportive, start writting today. Date all your letters, As soon as you get his address mail them. The mail is slow. it took 3 weeks before John got any of our letters. Its hard the the kids. Thats why I date everyone of them so he can see when I wrote them. I wish Eric and you all the best. Feel free to drop me a line anytime. I would be glad to help or just listen anytime.

Hey Becky, I'm sure no matter what you plan for Eric he will love it. It is normal for them to feel a little anxiety right before they leave. John just left last week and he was very quiet. Didn't want to talk much. I wanted him to take his phone with him so he could call from the airport but he said he only want to say one good-bye. They feel it as much as we do. Leaving home is a big step, for all of us. I wish Eric well. Keep in touch.

Welcome to Navy 4 Moms, this is an exciting website and very informative... We would like to invite you to the Blue Candle Lighting event that occurs in your home anytime you wish to light a candle for your recruit sailor or the military in general. This is done to honor their service during the holidays, birthdays, special events or if you just want to. The Home for the Holidays/Blue Candle Moms also ask you join us in this group. This event and group has no special connections to "any one group" We are all Navy Moms, Wives, and we became Blue Candle Moms.... this included everyone on this website. Please come join us and share your stories and your lightings and your holidays with your child...this was done because some moms were not having their sailors home, and we are support group that can share feelings and fears. Annouce your child is coming home or the despair of knowing on certain holidays it is your sailor we light the candles for. To honor them for the service in the past present and future. To honor those that gave the Ultimate Sacrifice for our freedom. We celebrate the freedom to be Blue Candle Moms and the freedom to light our candles anytime we choose. Please think about our group and the Event and when responding tell where you lit your candle, and the reasons for your paticular lighting. the event will continue and once you rsvp come in anytime and update your lightings
