Its hard to believe that we are almost there...it was going soo slow at first...now Im rushing to get things taken care of before I go. I don't know of his status yet, he says he won't know until week 7, so, I am guessing he won't have to leave right away. I am sorry for you, maybe you will have a few hours.

Hey there Roberta, I am to be there for PIR on 8/22 also....at what point did you find out that your child was a grad-n-go? I have no idea, and I don't know when I will know?

Dear Roberta,
I enjoy sharing what I went through with graduation. I can't believe that's two months ago, now the time is flying.
Another Navy mom, I've been writting to for awhile, she called me that too, "the night owl" HA HA!! You know what it is, but the time my beloved husband gets off the computer, it's already 11 PM. Then I check to see if any new Navy moms joined, I like "Welcomign them", then I read my letters. It's my new hobby.
I don't work any more, so I don't have to get up early, so here I am, many mornings until 4 AM.
As long as I'm up to see my boyfriend, "Steve Wilkos" oh I love his show. I wanted to go to his show while we were in Chicago. I wrote a letter, and I was told that the show doesn't tape in June or July. Kim's graduation was June 6.
Okay, so many times I wrote to his fan mail, if Steve reads it on Tv, I'll get a free T-shirt. Well, he never read my mail.
So again, I write, I said in the letter, " Your not taping while I'm in Chicago, and Steve hasn't read my letter, I watch the show everyday, can I have a free T-shirt anyway". I received it about a week later...HA HA!!! I'd still like to give Steve a hug, but, I'll settle for the T-shirt...HA HA!!
That's my boring life as I speak...HA HA !! So I made the Navy for moms a hobby !! HA HA!! What ashame.!!
I used to be so active and worked full time for many years. Last year I came down with Meniere's Disease, so I can't work.. I got used to it, It's a year already.
I'll let you get going. Good to hear from you again.
Take care and God bless.

Dear Roberta,
I'm still learning as I write, myself. I only found out about grad and go last week. I felt so bad, I'm telling moms they'll have the children the whole weekend. Then I was informed by two moms, that is not always true. I hope the moms I told that too, did have their children for the weekends.....I felt so bad , I didn't know.
From what I have been told, every new Sailor has differnt permissions and instructions. So when some one asks me now, I tell them that. Only their child can tell them what is their permission after graduation. I sure do hope you do have Liberty with your son.
By the way, what's his name?
Any way, I'll let you know, for the graduation get there early. There is a long security line. If your driving in, the cars also get security check.
Also, bring a blank check with you, your son will be picking up his Navy pictures. We didn't know that, fortunately, my husband had enough money to cover it.
Also, reserve a hotel room now, but ask them what is their canceling policy, in case your son does leave and you don't want to stay.
Have a car, everything is far apart.
Bring a white towel for your son to sit on, the uniform is all white.
I think that's all my" words of wisdon" right now! HA HA !!
Oh one more thing, join two particuar groups. One is the group that has the same Div and Ship as your son's. That is on his return address.
The other group is the one that shares his graduation (PIR) date.
Please keep in touch
You take care and God bless.

Dear Roberta,
How are you doing? Thank you for writting.
I just found out myself about the "grad and go." When my daughter Kim graduated, she had Liberty weekend with us. I just assumed all the graduates did, but I was informed about the "grad and go." I am so sorry to hear that. But, being there for the graduation, would mean so much for your son.
As for his next destination, don't makes plans, until your son tells you he has a Liberty weekend. It's possible he may not have it for a few weeks. He will tell you what he was informed, every Sailor has different instructions and schedules. So just wait it out, until he gives you the "Okay".
Now your down for the count . I highly recommend that you join the group that has the same Div and Ship as your son's.
The Navy moms there will be going through what your experiencing. Also, join the group that shares the same graduation (PIR) date as your sons.
Please keep in touch with me, and especially those two group of moms.
Take care and God bless.

sean is not married so I would not know about the housing, they have to turn in cell phones for the 1st week in a half or so, depending on when they phase up. There are several recruiters ion here, I'd ask them what would be better, him taking it and them keeping it or sending it directly to him when he phased up
heres a link to one,

our son was grad n go and he actually had three hours off base and then time to hang out at the airport the next day, we didn't get to go, his girlfriend did and the airline gave them passes through security so it was good. As far as changing your flight, he is not going to know anything until he gets to Ft Meade, Sean was going to do that for his GF but he had no way of knowing, then after he got there they could not leave base for the first 2 or 3 weeks. He will however he will be able to call anytime he has free time
Sean has phased up to where he can be out til 1 am most nights and if he puts in he can be off base over night on weekends but it takes several weeks to get to that point, After phase three he got to move into a 2 man dorm they have a tv and internet so the first thing Sean bought was a cell phone and a laptop, He will be able to use his laptop when he gets to the graphics part of school. they were going off sight this week for photoshoots he is enjoying it, we doing most communications through email and the phone, its really nice

well normally they are free the remainder of the weekend when they check in at A school. I would not say with 100 % certanty but that has been my experience. And yes you can spend time with him after the graduation it is usually about 1-2 hours then they are loaded on the bus and shipped to the airport. When you get to the airport you can get permission to go to the gate with him and there is a great USO at O Hare that you can hang out it too.

Good Luck and let me know if you have any further questions
