Does anyone know what happens if they are injured during bootcamp? I just got a call that my son's knee went out and they took him to the hospital there. He was crying stating he will be sent home in 2-3 weeks. He went to bootcamp on April 27th. M...

About me:
I am a single parent of 2 teenage boys. My boys and I have a very close relationship. My oldest son has always wanted to join the Navy since he was 11 years old. I found that the Navy had the program for kids 10-17 years of age called the Sea Cadets, my son tried it but did not continue with it. Now that he is 20 he has decided to join the Navy like he always wanted too. My youngest son is 17 years old and a Senior in high school and is deciding to join the Navy with his brother.
I am here to support or represent my:
Child/Stepchild
Stage of (Sailor’s) Navy Career?
Waiting to leave for Boot Camp
When I heard “Navy,” I:
Was proud and encouraged it
Through this Navy experience, I now believe:
It was positive and maturing. Our relationship has grown stronger.

Hi Rosmarie,
Its Karol. I just wanted to see how Gil is doing? Is he home yet? Jeff is doing good. He had all four wisdom teeth pulled and did okay. He is getting over a cold but says he's better. Let me know how you are doing and keep in touch.
Take Care, Karol

You have a very handsome family. Your pictures are so lovely. Keep in touch with me. If you can go on that group and Q&A with a recruiter, I am sure you may get the straight story. regarding the discharge and possibility of re-enlisting once he has recovered.

Good morning Rosemarie. I am sorry that happened to your Sailor. My heart is with your family. God knows what is best. In a way a blessing your son is coming home. . I say that to say. we all miss our kids. Thank God he has had the experience and that he may come home and get to recover and join back up. We would not want them out there struggling with anything. They should be able to come home and take care of their needs. I willl keep him and your family in my prayers Hopefully your other son will join up and you get the beautiful experience of the graduation. If My son were suffering with a health issue, I would want him home with me to take care of him. No one takes care of and loves our children like a mom can. You don't have to leave N4MS, as they also have a group for Sailors being discharged. From what I understand there is a lot of support and encouragement on that site. I would love to hear from you as well. I would love to hear that you son will be healing in body and mind and spirit, as you and your family. He tried and for some reason God did not want him to be there. Not at this time. After he talks with your doctors at home. He may be able to re-enter. Just keep the faith and keep the situation on the prayer wall. I will always pray for you and your family. Please keep me posted. There is always a silver lining behind every cloud. Keep me posted. Have a wonderful weekend and know that you and your family are loved.

Hi Rosemarie,
Wow, maybe 30 coming back. Thats alot, I hope Jeff is doing well. I think I've seen a couple other Mom's mention sprains, flu's and sprained ankles. I guess there are others who can't make it for whatever reason. Its sad because he was probably physically giving it his all.
I hope you can get your son back on your insurance. If he can get into community college and get some credits while he's mending he can go back in a better position.
I hope it all will work out for him and your other son. There's not alot of opportunity in the valley with the economy the way it is.
Keep me posted and let me know how he does.
Happy Mother's Day!

Hi Rosemarie,
He'll be good as new after surgery. I can tell you that because I have torn my miniscus in two places and my knee works great..
Hubby and I went horse back riding to Kennedy Lake up in the mountains and we hiked around the lake and I fell on a deadfall and thats what started it. Then I finished it off one day at the office running to turn the door alarm off. I went down right on the already injured knee and that was it.
The one thing he needs to do is exercise it as much as possible after surgery. Don't keep his leg straight or bent for to long. It will get stiff. The saying goes, move it or lose it. He is young and will heal.
I'm glad you are set on keeping him focused. I agree not to let him get down on himself. There is a reason for everything and this was meant to be. As hard as this may seem to be. Maybe he has to go through this to not be somewhere or be somewhere for a reason. Its kind of like unanswered prayers, you never know sometimes its better because things happen or don't happen for a reason.
Like I said, he will heal good because he is young. I have a little arthritis in mine so it does let me know when its going to rain but it is nothing compared to tearing it. My knee swelled and I could not walk on it. It was very painful but I'm sure the Navy will take good care of him. Will they send him home or do the surgery there?
Whatever happens keep me posted and I am thinking about you and your son.
Take Care, Karol

I am so sorry to hear this. So hard to not knowing details. I will keep your son in my thoughts and prayers and I hope everything works out. I just can't express enough how sorry I am. Hopefully like you said it will heal and he will be abe to go back in. Lets just think positive.
Take Care, Karol
