The USS Ross is a Destroyer - it is a nice size ship and it is an Aegis ship. The Ross is about 10 years old and the Navy is investing a lot of money of this type of ship. They are building lots of them for the future. Nick will get orders to a Destroyer after his C school is done.
There is a Destroyer group already in place on this forum - so you might want to stop by and see some of the moms there. Also I just set up a C school forum that is called C school sailors so stop by and join us. It is small group right now but growing quick. There are not as many C schools sailors as there are A schools.
Found this info on the USS Ross and thought you might be interested -
USS ROSS, like other ships of the Arleigh Burke class,
represents dazzling technology, and a special flair for the
shipbuilding art. Men and women from all across this Nation
labored to bestow upon her the armor and weapons systems she
will need should America ask her to go in harm's way. Their
toil has constructed a warship that is unmatched in firepower
and battle readiness.
This ship proudly calls itself a destroyer. It is a
descendant of the proud "tin cans" which proved themselves in
America's great naval battles. But it is so much more. ROSS is
a strike destroyer of the AEGIS family. It is everything that
Admiral Arleigh Burke wanted his destroyers to be, and more.
With a keen SONAR array, she will have the capability to counter
the still-growing Third World submarine threat. With a
complement of Tomahawk cruise missiles, ROSS will maintain our
ability to strike with pinpoint accuracy from the littorals.
And, with the integration of the farsighted SPY-1D radar system,
ROSS represents the best air defense capability today - and the
best Theater Ballistic Missile Defense tomorrow.
I am doing fine and Kyle is on his ship currently out to sea as far as I know. I am sure you were excited to spend time with Chad in GL. Yes, Kyle did go to C-school in Dam Neck. What rate/job is Chad training for? I am sorry to hear he doesn't like it. It may get better though. The farther along Kyle got the more he liked it. If it says he is to report no later the the 16th then that is correct, he has to be in Dam Neck by that date but I find that very odd. I was under the impression that most of the schools were on hold over the holidays so I am surprised he doesn't have leave. When does he finish A-school? Is he coming home after A-school? Unfortunately Kyle will not be home this Christmas since he just got to Japan the end of october and airfare is so expensive. He said somethng about maybe coming home next summer. I hope Chad gets some time during the holidays but unfortunately they belong to the Navy now and they go where they tell them. Let me know how things turn out. Take Care.
