My husband just joined the Navy after passing an audition to play bass guitar for the Navy band! We are very excited and looking forward to this new adventure :). He leaves for Great Lakes on March 26, 2012.

My son and his wife have moved twice. Elizabeth moved their belongings the first time and met Galen in VA. The navy flew him there three days after his PIR. I believe that the navy picked up the tab but my daughter in law drove the car and her dad and brother drove a truck from south of Pittsburgh to VA.
The second time was easier. Galen and Elizabeth packed a few personal items, grabbed their two cats and drove to Middletown, RI where they waited in their empty apartment for a day for the truck to bring their furniture. This time the navy sent people who packed and moved everything to Middletown, RI.
Boot camp is quite rigorous but it passes quickly. Once your guy gets started he will be really busy. You will not get a letter for 2 or 3 weeks. Make sure that you attend the PIR if at all possible. It is the thrill of a lifetime.
