Hi Shelly, I'm glad you like Lake George. We wouldn't live any place else. My son has been on the HST for just about a year now. We visited him last week and he gave us a tour of the ship. Boy, is it big! I hope your son enjoys his time on it. Good to hear from you. Sue

Shelly,
I had no idea Mark was on medical. What a bummer! Those knees sure can throw a wrench in your spokes. Johns girlfriend had knee surgery last year and it really limits what she can do. Mark seems like the type of person that won't let it impact his performance though. He has to be pretty tough to be where he is. I will spend some time in prayer for Mark today.
What a great idea to have him volunteer! How did he go about doing that? Is there an affiliation with the Navy base, or did he go through a civilian contact? Mark and John seem as though they are alot alike. John also has a really big heart. He might enjoy doing some volunteer work too. Let me know how Mark got involved, so I can pass it on to John.
Your intimate family Thanksgiving sounds like its turning into a big party!! LOL :0) Most of the boys are probably getting pretty home sick at this point, and a family gathering is sounding really good to them even if it's not their own. Shelly, you are now a serogate mother to the Pensacola Rescue Swimmers. Hehehe. I would love to be able to show up for that and be a co-parent. That is going to be so much fun! Let me know how it goes.
Well I better go do my job. I have a first aid CPR/AED class to teach on Friday, and I have a power point to finish.

Love and Hugs to you and your family!

Hey Shelly,
How are Ya?
It was sooo.. nice of you to extend the invite to John for Thanksgiving! I was talking to him about it this morning. He said when Mark asked him if he wanted to join you he was all excited!! Thank you!!!!
John had to go to medical this morning. He has been having back problems. They have given him one week off of PT and gave him some muscle relaxers and pain pills. He said they are going to start him on physical therapy soon. He is kind of worried that it will impact his training. It is fortunate that he is on hold right now and not in the middle of RSS.
How is Mark doing?
Talk to ya soon

Oh my Gosh,
That is so funny! We must be on the same wavelength.
I was on the phone with John when your message popped up on my page. I had not heard from him since last Saturday so I was so happy to hear from him. I am so glad you are hearing from Mark twice daily. I am getting ready to mail Johns lap top and the rest of his stuff to him, so it will be easy for him to shoot me an e-mail any time of the day or night. He has not been able to get a cell phone yet (he gave his other one to his girl friend) so he has to borrow one when he calls me. Thanksgiving in Pensacola, right on the beach?? That sounds awesome!!!! I hope you guys have a great time. Give my son a hug for me when you see him. We are still trying to financially recover from our trip to PIR. It is so nice that you live close enough to spend the holidays with him. That is probably going to be the hardest thing for me, not seeing him until he comes home for Christmas. I am sure looking forward to that!!
Thanks for writing! Lets keep in touch.

Love and Hugs

How are you???

Hey Shelly,
John called me on Wednesday, while they were in Atlanta, and they were getting ready to board for Pensacola. I have not heard from him since then. I suspect they will be able to call as soon as they get settled in. It will be so great when we can just call them on their cell or shoot them an E-mail!
It is such a great comfort to know John and Mark will have good friends around them to help them get through the next steps of their new careers. When they are so far away from family and friends they really need a good, strong support group and it looks like they are going to have one.
Make sure you take good care of yourself, as mom's it's so easy to forget about our own needs when we are alway so concerned about everyone else's. Talk to you soon.

Your Bud,

Lisa

Hi Shelly,
Welcome home!
What an amazing trip we just had, huh?
I am still on a high from seeing John. It was great to meet you and your family. Have you heard from Mark yet? I have not heard from John since we got home. John said he was supposed to leave for Pensicola on Wednesday but you never know what hurricane Ike will do to those plans. I am looking forward to him getting there so I can talk to him and e-mail him more frequently. I am really having a hard time with the fact that I won't be able to see him for four months. I have cried a few times over it already, I know, sappy huh?
I am so happy that you guys are only hours away from seeing Mark. It will make it so much easier on all of you.

Keep in touch. Let me know how you are doing.

Hugs,

Lisa

Hi Shelly,
I had the same question yesterday so I called my son's recruiter and asked him that i haven't from my son in so long and if he could check for me if he was still scheduled to grad that weekend. He checked and said he is no worry momma, lol.
But he also told me that they will get the call first if something would be wrong what would back the PIR and then you would get the call.

About me:
My name is Shelly. I live in St.Petersburg, Florida. I am the proud mom of 4 children and 1 wonderful and supportive husband. I have 3 boys and 1 girl ages 4-8-12-18. My son Mark did the DEP his senior year. He graduated on 6-6-08. What a proud moment. Mark left for BC on 7-10-08. I am so happy for him to be able to live out his life long dream. Not many people do that. He went straight to Pensacola for the SAR's program. He was so disappointed when he had to DOR and go undesignated. He hated the idea at first, but since has gotten used to the idea. He is stationed in Norfolk,VA. on the USS Truman. He is working the flight deck. They have went out to fleet a few times now for short practice runs. He seems to really like it now. He has made so many good friends. He doesn't like living on the ship and certainly doesn't like all the long hours, but he knows working hard will pay off. It always does. They tell him what a great job he does and it does him well to hear that. Its nice to know he gets patted on the back sometimes. We are very proud of his noble decision to join the Navy. It speaks loudly about his character.
