Shelly,
Yes, I got a letter in the box that had his graduation date and his address. If all goes well, he will graduate Dec. 30th. The letter I am talking about is actually mostly just information but he got to write just a short note on the back page. He said when he arrived there they had no sleep for 2 days. Maybe we will start getting letters soon. I have already written him and sent a card but from the information we got, it says they may not get it for 5 - 10 days. Let me know when you do hear from your son. It is definitely a strange feeling opening that box and taking out the clothes they were wearing the last time you saw them.

Shelly,
Yeah, I got the box today. Did you get the one from your son? I know this is what Colton wanted to do, I just hope he feels the same now that he is there. I feel the same as Kelly at the office, I just hope my boss doesn't see me burst into tears.

Hi Shelly,
Yes, Nick graduated this year. He is 19. He will be going to Nuke school in S. Carolina. We'll be at graduation. Did you say something about they might be done by Christmas. Wow, that would be nice. Well gotta get ready for work. Dreading my day sitting in my office. Hope I can keep busy and not break down into tears.
Talk to ya soon....Kelly

Hmmm...how am I holding up...barely...I am working today but not even sure how I've gotten through the day...I only have one hour left to go...been texting my son all day to ask him questions and remind him of things...I am certain I am driving him crazy. I am off tomorrow - gonna go vote with him and spend some time with him but he also wants to spend time with some friends...recruiter picks him up at 3pm tomorrow he spends the night in Niagara Falls and than we go to the base for the swearing in at 9am and off he goes to Great Lakes...so really not sure how I am holding up. But thanks for asking - I am sure I will be fine...just trying to stay strong and positive.

Dear Shelly,
You're very welcome. I was a nervous wreck last year! HAHAH! Many Navy moms helped me through Boot Camp. Now, the box with my daughters belongings, I knew about.
But what a horrible feeling it is opening it. Many moms say the same thing. That's why I warn about this. One mom, this was funny, her daughter in law received the box, while she was visiting. Both women were hesitatant in opening it. Once the daughter in law did open the box, the sweet fragrance of her husbands dirty socks overwhelmed them. They both broke out laughing! HAHA!

I'm trying to think, the Navy must have required to take xerox copies of your sons immunization papers. You know what, let him bring all that with him, his SS card, checkbook, etc.. What ever he doesn't need, will be sent back in the box. I was surprised what my daughter's box had in it. Including her writting journal.

The only things that ar really neccessary are his personal hygiene products. The Navy supplies everything else. In the box, were my daughers brand new white panties and bras she just bought. It was listed in the Navy manual on what to bring to Boot Camp.
He could have no more than $25, just in case he forgot to buy something, there's a store on base.

Let me get going. Please stay in touch.
Take care and God bless,
Barbara

Dear Shelly,
How are you today? This Navy for moms is such a blessing.
Are you going to have a fare well dinner/party for your son?
I had my daughters in her favorite Chinese Buffet.

Your going to be fine and so is Dylan. I'll let you know what to expect.
WIthin 48 hours after Dylan leaves, he'll call you, let you know he arrived. Now you need patience.

The following week you'll recieve the box with his belongings. Warning, it does leave an empty feeling.

The second week is the Form letter. Don't mispalce this. It's now combined with graduation information. It'll have Dylan's address, and Division/Ship numbers. On the back will have a couple of sentences from Dylan. You'll get some releif seeing his handwritting.

Around the third week, you'll recieve your first long letter from Dylan. Another warning, sometimes that first letter is sad. Don't panic if it is. His letters will get more uplifting.

Once the recruits get into the rounitne of Boot Camp and over being homesick, they all like Boot Camp, beleive it or not.
You may even get a phone call from him. You'll have about 3-4 phone calls during the whole Boot Camp weeks.

It's the moms having the nervous breakdowns! HAHA!!
Boot Camp isn't as horrible as us moms picture it.

Please stay in contact with other Navy moms. I'm always here. Together we'll help you through Boot Camp....we haven't lost a mom yet! HAHA!

Please don't hesitate to write.
Take care and God bless,
Barbara
