Thanks Lydia, for all the information. I sure helps having someone who has been on the inside answer our questions. Jeremy has been in for 2 years and has been an E3 the whole time, so he is trying for E4. This is his second time taking the exam. If…

I think all our sailors are ready for this cruise to be over. Jeremy emailed me that he couldn't wait til they were back in Japan. He has so much to do when they are on land, he said. Not sure what, except I know, he is taking his petty officer exam…

Donna, a restaurant sounds great! I'm anxious to meet more Tampa Bay Moms. My daughter is in for the week-end from North Dakota (Air Force husband), and I have loved having one of my children in the house again! Alyse, can't wait to leave for Alask…

Donna, 9/12 or 9/19 sounds great. It will be a little cooler then. We probably need to plan something mid-county-maybe Seminole or Largo? I know you guys tried to meet once before and didn't have a good turn out; was that at a park?

Krystal, my son had week-end liberty with overnight priveleges after BC, but we did not know for sure until after we saw him at graduation. He was not Grads-N-Go; stayed on hold at GL, then moved to San Diego. (He was not going for AT then, switched…

Donna-we leave on August 27 and get back home on September 8th. Are you thinking of something for just us Moms or for the families too? NurseNavyMom-has your son contacted the NROTC or USF on advise for housing? I don't live in Tampa, so I'm not fam…

Great idea, Donna. If we're in town, my husband and I would love a get together. We are leaving for a 2 week trip to Alaska on the 27th. (30th Anniversary!)

Kathleen, You're lucky your sailor gets to come home from Pensacola. When my son was there for A school, it was too far for him to come home for a weekend-even though we live in Florida! We live in the Tampa Bay are and it is an 8 hour drive! Don't…

Karen, The Navy isn't the only branch hard on newlyweds. My daughter is married to an E3 in the Airforce. He enlisted after they had been married two months. Then between bootcamp and tech schools, they were apart for almost a year. They are now sta…

Jeremy was told he was only allowed to take one seabag on the GW, plus his backpack. Everything else he had to leave in his room at Atsugi. But as said before, I think it depends on their job, rank, and what base they are stationed at in Japan. Jere…

Jeremy has become another victim to theft aboard the GW! He emailed me this morning that someone stole his Zune (like and Ipod) out of his backpack, while he was at work. The good news is that they didn't take his laptop or wallet, also in the backp…

Tracy, Prayers are with you. Let us know how the testing comes out. I know it must be really hard not to see your Army baby graduate, but your health is important and I'm sure he understands. Enjoy his visit!

Jeremy loves Japan so much, he hopes to get to stay after his first 3 years are up. But he's also hoping to do STA21, so he'll have to come back stateside for awhile if he gets accepted into that. Donna, have you been over to Japan. My husband and I…

Most of the first time crusers got assigned to the galley, Jeremy got lucky! He is enjoying being part of the Hazmat team. After his 12 hour shift, he goes to the line shack on the cruiser, to get qualified for AT. They don't get a whole lot of slee…

Heard from Jeremy, and after a full 8 hours of sleep, he said he felt fine. They get such little sleep on board, that they probably get sick easier than normal.

Profile Information

About me:
I am married to Ron for 30 years this August. We have three children, Jason-age 24, Jessi-age 22, and Jeremy-age20. They all moved out last year! Jason still lives near us, but Jessi married last year and is now an Air Force wife living in NorthDakota. Jeremy is stationed in Japan and just started his first cruise aboard the USS George Washington. He is rated an AT, although on this first cruise, he is doing Hazmat. I have been a stay-at-home Mom for years, so now with them all leaving , I decided to go back to college. I attend St. Petersburg College and am pursuing a degree in computers. My husband and I love to collect antiques, read and travel.
I am here to support or represent my:

Stage of (Sailor’s) Navy Career?
Enlisted
When I heard “Navy,” I:
Was proud and encouraged it
From my experience with the Navy, the most important thing I learned was:
That my son can take care of himself! Although, he still needs lots of encouragement.
Through this Navy experience, I now believe:
It was positive and maturing. Our relationship has grown stronger.

Sherrill saw your post on notifying Sailor regarding Death in the Family. I believe if you notify the Red Cross they will get the message to Jeremy. I think, and believe me I'm not sure, but I think coming home is for immediate family members (i.e., Mom, Dad, Sblings)..grandparents only if they raised you. Or I've seen where you can contact recruiting office and they might be able to help you notify him. Good luck and so sorry to hear about your Mom. Let us know if we can help.
Blessings and all our thoughts and prayers for you and your family.
