Just guessing every sailor is a Polywog until they cross the Equator, when that happens there is a ceremony, then they become a Shellback.... if they do that twice, then they become a Gold Shellback.

I am not sure what a polywog is. My son Chris is a Sonar Tech. Sounds like a frog or something. LOL

Hi there, I don't know if your Sailor is a 'polywog' or not, my son Matt is. Today is the 'Shellback' ceremony for our 'polywogs' So I think you know what THAT means, right ?

The least expensive way I have found is via USPS, "Military Flat Rate" the Postal Service even provides the necessary boxes free of charge: To request the boxes go to: www.usps.gov or call 1 (800) 610-8734 and ask for a care kit (I request the bi...

Hi Veronica and welcome. This is my son Chris' first deplyment also. He has been in the Navy almost 3 years. I was not aware what they were doing. My son is very tight lipped about what he is doing. He just says "Mom you know I can't tell you" So ...

When I heard “Navy,” I:
Needed to learn more about it
From my experience with the Navy, the most important thing I learned was:
In the six years that my son has been in the Navy I have seen him maturing into a wonderful young man. I just wish I would see him more often.
Through this Navy experience, I now believe:
It was positive and maturing. Our relationship has grown stronger.

Dear Antonella, I was just thinking about how you are doing. It is certainly too hot too fast this year, isn't it? Have you heard about a get-together yet? I'd love to. My Jonathanis in 3rd week of bc. I got the "kid in a box" and the form letter but am still waiting to hear his voice. I joined the pir 9/11 site and other moms have heard from theirs. Oh well, I guess he has other priorities. Keep in touch. Ruth Ann (in Jupiter)

Good morning Antonella, I'm not sure if the 'reply that I'm not attending' link allowed me to say how delighted I was there is a group meeting here in the Treasure Coast. My co-worker is to be married on Saturday and I'm 'helping' with the arrangements, so it isn't possible for me to attend. I'll look forward to the next one. Thanks again for the post.

Hi - Glad to be "friends". My daughter, Amanda is on shore duty right now (She had been on the USS KIDD out of San Diego) now she is living in Maryland. Nice to have her closer to home (Manchester, NH) so at least we get to see her every couple of months as it is only a 9 hour drive. Can't say where or what she is doing as it ' high security'. Is your son enjoying serving on his ship, is this his first time around, Amanda is on her second enlistment. Re-enlisted in Feb. Keep in touch (but be patient about answers because I don't get out here as often as I'd like) Take care Dee :o)

Hi Antonella, nice to meet you. I live in Tamarac but used to live in Loxahatchee--out in the woods. I worked in Broward and so did my husband so we finally moved south 9 years ago. I would love to attend on the 27th but I have already committed to a family birthday party. Hopefully I can make the next meet and greet. Sounds fun. My son leaves in August for boot camp....it is coming fast. Seems like yesterday (September) that he signed up. Wow! Thanks and take care.
