From my experience with the Navy, the most important thing I learned was:

I don't know about people, but I think we have enough stuff to fill 75-100 socks. Do you want to order some more and I can give you some money towards them on the 7th?

Glad you enjoyed your time with Sami. It really is hard to let them go isn't it? I am so proud of Mike, but gosh I wish he was closer. Skype is good, but it isn't the same as actually touching them.

The visit was fabulous and too short, but that will always be the case....it's a mom thing, you get it. I will be praying for safe travel and an amazing visit with Sam. What kind of a car did you get her?

I only know for sure about 6 and the 10 Wendy is bringing. Guess I should start really pushing it on facebook, Molly's site here and there and the blog. I know for sure with the stuff that Crystal has we can fill more than 50 socks, but I don't know what others are bringing. How about waiting and if we need more we can do them the next weekend and still get them out in time. What do you think?

Finally feeling better, I was out sick all of last week - the kiddos got me really well. The plus was no flu so that helped. Still tired, but I feel like a million bucks compared to before so all is good. Tell Kristi hi and we'll talk soon. Take lots of pictures.

Hey one other note...one of the kids at my school's dad is a chief aboard the Reagan. His son and his dad flew out yesterday to do the tiger cruise back, how cool is that?

Blessing and safe travel to you and Larry {{{{{{{{{{{{HUGS}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}

Yeah, I'm back and so are the teachers. Kids come back for testing on Thursday and Friday and then Monday we start the school year full force. I need you to send me Sami's address. There are two other Colorado Sailors aboard the same ship and I have one of their address, still need the last one. I am going to mail boxes out to them the end of this week I hope. I haven't heard much going to go check now, but I may just move it to my house and go for it even if we only have a small group. We can BBQ and pack and chat anyway. I'll post out there sometime tonight. Hugs too you too my friend. Don't forget to bring Kristi you, she's an honorary Navy mom :)

Katie went to BC 10/8/08 and graduated A school 4/1/09. She left before the end of April for Japan. The just had a COC - change of command - on their way back to port while they were in the sea of Japan somewhere near Okinawa. When out on patrol/maneuvers, the Essex has 1,200 sailors and 1,800 marines. That's what they were carrying on the last trip down to Australia.

Tammie, Glad you got to spend some quality time with your daughter. Before you know it, they will be heading back to San Diego. Lets keep in touch at that time, I plan to be in SD for their homecoming--are you planning to do the same?

So what kind of ship is the USS Chancelorville? Hope Sami likes it! Katie is doing fine. She finished her 'cranking' duty, so now she is on to doing her Damage Control rate. The Essex is heading back to Japan, where I hear they have been having earthquakes, but not as far south as Sasebo where her port is.

Back on the 28th you asked about respect on the ship. Here is what my daughter Katei - a new DCFA - to the USS Essex out of Sasebo, Japan, said when I asked her about respect. "Yes women get respect for the most part if they do not complain about the work and actaully do the work. I even know this from my shop, cause some of the guys get annoyed by the girls that are
complaining about it being too heavy or why do I always have to do it. So
usually they will be given the easy lifting type jobs. I'm going to make
sure that I'm not like that at all. "

Katie started off doing her 'scullery' duty - or whatever they call it- she got 3 months of laundry duty before starting her true rate - which will be very, very soon.
