My son has shared that reenlistment must be earned - it is not a given. I am a veteran - Army - it is not an easy life but it can be rewarding if it is a good fit. An honorable discharge looks good on the resume.

"Hanging our with all his friends." hmm I don't know. I have two sons, ages 21 and 25. If you have any concerns about these guys, I'd speak up ASAP. Hanging with the wrong crowd is lethal. If this group has nothing going, they will unconsciously t...

This is called "Perform To Serve". Every sailor under 12 yrs has to be looked at for retaining in the Navy based on their evals. If their performance is good and they are doing a good job, they will be able to reenlist fine.

Hi Tammy. I am very sorry to hear about what happened to your son and his truck.

I just wanted to give you one advice. I read that you wrote to the commander on base. It is actually a "no no" in the Navy to take thing to the top before going through the chain of command. Yes, even for the family members including a spouse, me. It will all come back to your son and he would not like that. There are steps needs to be taken and rules to follow in the Navy.

Sometimes you'll hear or see on this website moms screaming "I'm going to contact my congressman!!" No, that is worse. Blowing things up and going outside of the Navy is the last thing you want to do.

Anyways, I know this is all new to you but it is the way of the military. We Navy wives understand and follow these rules because we support our husbands and will never do anything to hurt their career.

I really hope your son's case will be handled the way it should be and NCIS will find the person who did this. Please let your son know that something like this happens in the Navy very often no matter where he is. (Deployed, on a ship, barracks....etc) So don't purchase anything expensive which he can't carry with him. Purchase those items ONLY when he can get a place to live off base. Good luck to you and your son!

What to do?

My son has been in the Navy now for 1 year! He came home this weekend and told us that the Commands are going to start looking at people to discharge from the Navy because they have too many enlisted and not enough money! Does anyone know if this is true? He is thinking about telling them he wants out because he misses his friends, (even though he has made great ones in the Navy and I prefer them better) wants to go to college with them and play baseball. We told him this would be the worst mist… Continue
