When I heard “Navy,” I:
Needed to learn more about it
From my experience with the Navy, the most important thing I learned was:
Always expect changes. We had 5 recruiters in the year my son was a DEPPER. Now there are more changes as he is grad n go when they thought he would have the weekend.
Through this Navy experience, I now believe:
It was positive and maturing. Our relationship has grown stronger.

Hello Teresa, I am so glad your son has setteled in in FL. Yes, he will have alot of homesick days still. However your communication with him should be alot easier now. He will be making alot of new friends now too. I am wondering if that was the most exciting thing you have ever attended or what? I am sorry I am so late with getting back with you. My son and his GF were here for 11 days and my daughter and her family are transitioning back to the US after being in the UK for 3 years. They have been staying between our house and his mom and dad's house. They should be moving into their house the end of the month so things are slowly getting back to normal. We had a wonderful time with Steven while he was home. We got to celibrate our birthdays together. He turned 21 on the 14th of august and ya I just got a year older on the 15th. HEHEHE
Drop me a line and let me know how your trip was and what you thought of everything.

Hi Teresa. My name is Mary and I have been reading N4M every so often. I don't usually get a lot of time because we own a Greek restaurant and it keeps us pretty busy, usually at least 12 hours a day. Got to love the restaurant buisness! I just got a phone call from my son Mark. He is in the same Division as your son Andrew. As a matter of fact I learned they flew out of KCI together for BC. They were also bunk mates for a while. Anyway just wanted to say Hi and tell you congratulations on your son. Mark says he's a great guy. Travel safely this week.

Hay just wanted to stop by and tell you to have a safe trip to PIR. My son will be home on Thurs so I might not have time to stop in again before you leave. I am anxious to hear how it went and what you thought. Better get an extra memory card for the camera and have extra batteries. LOL
Talk to you when you get back have a wonderful time.

I do not know if there well be something to make him stand out. He may be closer to the front of the line he is in. We got lucky that when Steven came in he was on the outside row and walked right infront of us so he was easy to find. I do not think you will have problems seeing him as when his div. comes in it is announced and they march slow enough you should have time to spot him out. Yes there will be a sign with his div. number on it and that is the place to sit. I was so glad it was inside as my son graduated in august as well and it was nice and cool in there. I tell you what it is just such an experience that I can not put into words. You will see, I am anxious to hear from you when you return on how it all went for you. We stayed in Waukeegan (sp?) as well it is a nice little place. I wish I would have had my GPS then as it would have made it easier to get around. We did fine though.

Do you already have your hotel and everything lined out? We stayed at a Best Western that was nice. It was close to the base as well.
I will tell you that you need to get to the base early. I would say at least half an hour before they open the gate because the line is very long and they serch everyones car. Make sure you have your ID if anyone is I think 18 but it could be 16. Our other son was like 9 at the time but I still made him take his school ID. That process is a goo half an hour as well. Then you will have to park and then they check your id again at the door. Once you are in the drill hall and have your seat you can go to the little shop there and order your DVD and I think they have other stuff there too but we did not leave our seats as we were afraid we would miss something but that was not the case. They run a video in the drill hall while you wait that is all about Navy history so it is not a boaring wait.
Sorry I rambeled on so much but those are things that I think are important for you to know before you get there. I sure wish I would have known about this site before Steven graduated.

well looks like i will see you and your son at the airport cause that is what my weekend will be consisting of. That is okay though, any time i can spend with her is quality time even if it is at the airport. I am sure that place will be crawling with families. I am just proud to be there and to be with her. My son finally did call me back and read the letter to me. He just wanted to make me sweat it out for awhile. I told him not cool. I will let you sweat it out when i come back from seeing your sissy. he thought about that for a second and said...... Not cool mom! made my point. My daughter hasn't gotten sick and has only said good things for this week. she cant wait until this is over and she is in A school. she is glad she gets no more hair cuts and can let her hair grow into a bun. She is Super excited at the fact that she can buy a little make up at the Navy exchange. My daughter has come along way and i am so proud of her. I will make the trip and fly 7 states away for a short visit to show her she is supported. keep writing the kids and send lots of pictures, they live for it.

Thanks for the info, I have not heard from my son since a letter dated the 13th, although his girlfriend got one later. I was wondering what week they were on, and how things were going. I know he was worried about his PT test. He flunked the first one, having trouble with his shins, but is bound and determined to work through it and pass. He is very head strong and tries his best to think positive when adversity is in front of him. I do know that he has grown up just in the short time he has been there, I could tell by the way he talked last week when he called me. Please keep me posted whn you hear anything else, you are sure a blessing to all of us! Kerry
