Hi Ken's Mom, sorry to hear your son won't be home for their wedding. That is awful! Why can't the NAVY ever remember the sailor's FAMILY? :( I was hoping to meet with Alyssa in May when I move out there. Hope all works out for the best.

Thanks so much and congratulations to your son! How long has he been on the Nevada? How long does it take them to qualify? I have a million questions - thank you for offering to answer some of them. And please stay in touch. N4Ms has been such a comfort to me. My son is the baby (at 19 ha!) I miss his terribly, but am so proud of him. It was such a joy to see strangers at the airport stop to thank him and shake his hand. After we put him on the plane, we hung around to see it take off. Many people came up to us and commented how proud we must be of our son. Oh my, yes!

Oh I forgot to ask, what crew is your son assigned to? Richard is on the gold crew.

As far as I know of he has not been assigned a sea dad. He is still home on leave. He has to be in bangor by 0700 on the 9Aug09. He will start school on 10Aug09. He is and ET/Nav. His orders are for him to report to the boat by 24Nov09. He said he has one of the longest school schedules of all job titles. How will his housing be affected? Thanks for the info. I need all I can get. Talk to you soon.

Hi, My son and DIL just move to Bremerton in April, they lived in Base Housing, they were told there is a 2 yr waiting period for housing in Bangor, however about 4 or 5 people that they know have moved into Bangor housing. They just moved to Bangor also, because of some problems in the old neighborhood. So have Ken contact housing.

My son, Travis, spent last year's birthday in Boot Camp too. Missing the b-days are hard but spending your twentieth birthday at the first port call on your first deployment as part of the maiden voyage of the USS New Hampshire in Norway has got to be something that will stay with him forever. He comes home for a visit in August and I can't wait to hear some stories and see his pictures from Norway, Spain and France. He's been at sea a little over three months. I hear from him when the boat is at periscope depths by email and by phone when they are in port. I was anxious at first but he sounds excited about his adventures, working hard and loving it, as a mom I can't ask for anything more. Nayv Moms has a sub group for his sub and talking with other moms is fun and reassuring. Best wishes.
