I got a letter!

We got a letter from our boy! I am so excited! He left on Nov. 3 and this is the first real letter we've gotten from him! Isn't it funny how just the simplest little thing can mean so much?! I've written him quite a few times - but had heard nothing back.

I am really missing him - I had a moment the other night. Our church serves dinner on Wed. nights and I was counting up how many I needed to pay for - and, alas, he wasn't in the count. It's those little things that I'm noticing more and more.… Continue

He is gone...

Well, he's gone! It was a tearful goodbye for all of us! But it was so good! The recruiter picked him up here at home but then his dad and I went and had dinner with him in the hotel and that was the final goodbye. We heard from him last night that he was there and would write when he could. My confidence is not in the US Navy - but in the God whom I love and trust! We know that this will be so good for our son - I think his older brothers are envious as they had both wanted the military but bec… Continue

My son leaves today...

My son leaves today, at 1600. He is my 3rd child out of 6 - and while the older two boys have left (and come back) this one is HUGE! I know that things are NEVER going to be the same here! AND - I might add - I am so thrilled for him! He posted on his facebook last week 'I start my new job next week!' I never thought of it that way - what a great way to look at it! This kid has been looking for work for over a year and come up empty - like so many other people everywhere. While I will miss him s… Continue

I am not sure how it works, but He definately want to get on top of it as soon as he finds out his A school schedule because they can make arrangements for Liberty, I think they can exchange some time for him. My cousins BFF had to do that but couldn't make any arrangements until A school. If he is in holding though for A school he should still be able to make arrangements, as a matter of fact it might even be easier for him if he is in holding.

Hi Arod,
Thanks for the comment on my blog :) I know that the group before 01/08 are getting spmething special for Christmas because they have seniority. I think (According to my cousin) They usually hace something nice there for the Sailors for anyone that is on base. I know last year, my daughter's botfriend at the time (she talked him into joining and he left before her go figure) his division was part of the adopt a sailor program, where they get to have dinner as a small group with a local family. I dont know if that will be the case for thte 01/08 group or not but it would be nice if they could do something. I am hoping they atleast get calls home on that day. I know this will be an especially hard day for my daughter as Christmas is her favorite holiday. This will be her first Christmas in 18 years she doesn't wake up to sticky buns. Don't look at it as he is not coming home though. As you know when he gets Liberty and can travel they get free flights through the Navy is a plane is going in that direction and there is room for him. Of course that doesn't happen for a while but it does happen. I have a neighbor who's son is in his last year of service and he got to come home for five days after only six months. I am sure that was just luck but he got to. There is a difference in their living to the service, there is so much uncertainty in everything all the time, but I personally take comfort in knowing, I have raised my daughter the best way I knew how. I gave her all the tools to go into life with a level head and make the best most honest choices for herself, and this was hers.

Well,
My boy leaves home in 16 days. He has been cleaning out his room and putting things away. His enlistment is for 6 years. I cried the other day when I saw him putting stuff away in the attic! He is #3 of 6 kids - while the older 2 'left' home, they came back! This one is different! I just know it! I do realize THIS is the goal - train them up so that they can leave - but when it happens - YIKES! Tugging at my heart big time! I'm absolutely thrilled with his decision to join the Navy - he took his dad with him to meet with the recruiter and get the information and everything - and we are both at peace (thank you, God!) Many changes happening here in our home! Thank you so much for the heads up at what I should expect - getting ANY information from him has been nearly impossible! He did tell me about sending his clothes back. He has a cousin who is also in the Navy and they are in close contact. They are scheming to hook up at some point - maybe even getting stationed somewhere together! I'm thinking that's not likely! We'll see! I'll be keeping in close contact here - Thanks again!

Dear Arod,
How are you doing today? Welcome back! I did the same thing, I oringinaly had my last name on here. This website is opened to the public, anyone can read our messages. That's why I took my last name off.
We have to also becareful not to mention location of where our children's ships are,

So your son leaves in 21 days. For starters, he'll be fine.

Here's what to expect. Usualy within 48 hours after laeving for Boot Camp, the recruit calls home. Now you'll need patience.

After a week, you'll recive the box of dirty laundry! HAHA! There won't be a letter in it. Warning, this box does leave an empty feeling. We all went through this.

The second week is the Form letter. Don't misplace this. It's now combined with graduation information. It should have the address with the Division and Ship numbers, to write to. On the back, there will be a couple of sentences from your recruit. You'll get some releif seeing the handwritting.

Around the third week, your first long letter. Another warning, it may be sad.
If it is, don't panic. The letters will get more uplifting.
You may even recieve a phone call the following weekend.

The recruits are still not into the rountine of Boot Camp yet, and are homesick.
Once they get into the rountine of Boot Camp, they do like it, believe it or not.

It's the moms having the nervous breakdowns!! HAHA!
Boot Camp isn't as horrible as us moms picture it.

Please stay in contact with other Navy moms. I'm always around. Together, we'll help you through Boot Camp....we haven't lost a mom yet! HAHA!

Please don't hesitate to write.
Take care and God bless,
Barbara
