OK now I understand. My son in A school was voted the most independent, antisocial. Out of my group of friends, I got to read about their sailors adventures, and nothing from mine. He missed mother's day, my birthday, his birthday. Didn't have a p...

Profile Information

About me:
Hello everyone. My name is Simone and I live in Lake Charles. I will be updating my profile over the next few days with info and pictures.

My son, Cody, will be 21 in August and just arrived at his first duty station earlier this week. He is stationed on a ship in dry dock in Guam. Trying to figure out the time difference has been a stress on my overloaded, ADD brain!!! LOL.

I encouraged Cody to join the Navy as he needed some discipline and direction in his life once he was out of school. So far he loves it, however, he is still in the honeymoon period!

I was in the Navy back in the late 80's. My dad was in the Navy in the late 50's or early 60's. Cody's dad and paternal uncle were in the Navy in the late 80's also. Both of my brothers were in the Army. The oldest in the 70's, stationed at The Wall in Germany and the youngest is still in and has been all over the world several times, including 2 trips to Iraq.

My daughter, Taren, is 19, lives in Lake Charles near me and has just graduated from Massage Therapy school. She is waiting on her license. She wants to work with physically disabled children in the future. She has already been very active at the Louisiana Lions Crippled Childrens Camp in Anacoco for the last couple of summers. She sees the need there for qualified massage therapists to assist these children with their pain and ease of movement.

I live with a wonderful man, Carl. He has a 16 year old daughter who is a joy to be around. She is into art and showing cattle. She just got her license and is enjoying running the roads!!!
I am here to support or represent my:
Son/Daughter
Stage of (Sailor’s) Navy Career?
Enlisted
When I heard “Navy,” I:
Was proud and encouraged it
From my experience with the Navy, the most important thing I learned was:
Discipline, responsibility and how much I love living in Louisiana.
Through this Navy experience, I now believe:
It was positive and maturing. Our relationship has grown stronger.

Frustrated

I am a bit frustrated at my son. I heard from him once at 1am my time on May 12 to let me know he was there and that was it. I am not even sure which ship he is on. I have no way of contacting him. I just want to reach out and throttle him for not contacting me again. I know that he is busy and 15 hours ahead of me but there is always email, right? No excuse for not contacting his mother.

I also know that boys, in general, and Cody, specifically, are not great letter writers but email is not a… Continue

New to Blogging

I have always shied away from blogging. I just don't have that much to talk about to keep a blog going. However, I feel I am drawn to blog here on this site. Maybe because we all have something in common and I know the sacrifices each and everyone of you has had to make for your child to be free to make this all important decision. So, I hope to be able to have enough to talk about here. Please feel free to add comments and/or suggestions.

I look forward to getting to know you.

Simone

Hi there. I am also from Lake Charles. Wanted to say welcome and to let you know that we have a Louisiana mom's group which has recruits that haven't going in yet to mom's who's sailors have been in for years. Go to groups and type in Louisiana moms. You can leave a comment and say hi. Then go to Louisana moms introduce yourself, that goes out to all of Louisiana moms. Next go to Louisiana mom's from Lake Charles and say hello. In the next month or two we want to have a lunch social.

Hi & welcome to Navy for Mom's:)) You will find a lot of answers, support and encouragement here. My daughter, Ashley, has been in the Navy since July 2007 and is an IT. What is your son/daughter doing with the Navy? If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to ask. I'm glad you joined and look forward to hearing more about you & your Sailor. Pat
