Just found the link to the new Navy commercial by googling it: To view the Navy's newest recruiting video, "The Calling" visit: http://www.navy.mil/navydata/featurePlay.asp?id=49.

Helomom, I went to the navy.mil site but couldn't find what I think it the new ad. I caught the tail end of something on TV the other night and that may have been it. Once I'm on the site, where do I go to view it? Thanks!

My son didn't apply until December and found out in late March. He got a phone call from the area recruiting captain that he'd been awarded the scholarship. If I remember correctly, the selection panel does not meet every month.

My son originally applied to the USNA and, during the whole recruiting process, he was very honest with all of the coaches. He told them that USNA was his #1 choice but there were no guarantees so he wanted to keep his options open. His high schoo...

My son is Marine option NROTC and plays football at a Div III school. He left for orientation in mid-August, very enthusiastic and full of determination to take on the world. About 3 weeks into the school year, he "hit the wall" and was discourage...

I sent my son off to school with a package of Purex 3-in-1 laundry sheets. No need to cart around detergent and fabric softener or worry about when to put it in the wash! I tried it out on my own laundry and it works well. I like Daria's idea abou...

My son is a Marine option at RPI. He loved O-week at Newport Naval Station. There are only 3 Marine options in his unit, and I don't know how different his training will be. I guess we'll all find out together! Deb

Thanks for the clarification, Daria. RPI funds average room and board, not full R/B. For Kyle's R/B, it's very close to full. You are indeed right that we are very fortunate!

I also enjoyed meeting the RPI NROTC moms on the 23rd at the PIR. I found myself feeling like I was observing someone other than my son. He was beaming when the ceremony was over, so very happy at finally starting on his path to the Marines. I'd ...

Hi Julie, Our son's NROTC commander at RPI told us that the school provides a room/board scholarship for all ROTC students. I confirmed that information with a person in the financial aid department who only handles ROTC kids. The waiver/scholars...

Hi Deb-
I'm trying to figure out why I'm not getting emails to let me know when I messages here all of them sudden :( Sorry I didn't respond sooner. You must be the Deb from Service Academy Forum :)) Anyway- Hopefully you will be going back for the graduation on Sunday and if so then it's not too late. Yes- it will be better for him if he has an iron and iron board but not a full size board. Kara did fine with a smaller one. Like a table top sized one. I'm not sure about BarH but in Quad there was no where to really unfold the thing to do the ironing if she had brought a full sized one. That would have been the biggest problem. A lot of the ironing ends up being "touch up" type stuff once they get their uniforms in shape so the the smaller ones are fine.
Hope that helps. Might see you Sunday if I am healthy enough to go to graduation :)-

Hey, welcome to the page...I'm fairly new too, just joined while my son was in boot camp at Great Lakes, Ill. in Feb. '09. He has been in Pensacola NAS finishing his training, and that is only about 45 mins. from us. So it will be a change to see him go so far away, but I am hearing good things about Whidbey. I know it is beautiful, especially in the summer, but I hear the winters can reallly get cha. Especially if you're southern born and bred and never lived out of the south before. But, I know that Matt will do well, he always does when he puts his mind to it. Thanks again for the encouraging remarks, and if I can ever be of service, please let me know. I hope your son enjoys the Navy as much as mine seems to right now. It has been a great program so far, and really made my son go from a boy to a man. He needed that. But he is the one that is most proud of who he's become, and I'm glad for that too.

Hi & welcome to Navy for Mom's:)) You will find a lot of answers, support and encouragement here. My daughter, Ashley (20), has been in the Navy since July 2007 and is an IT3 & my son Tim (19), an SH, has been in since Feb 2008 stationed on the USS Nimitz. What will your son be doing with the Navy? If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to ask. I'm glad you joined and look forward to hearing more about you & your Sailor. Pat
