Dear dtamerlano,
How are you doing today? No, it wasn't me who said that. Unless the Navy changed things. I heard the video of the graduation can be bought,I don't know the cost.
But not shown live on the computer. I have my doubts about that. This is the first time I ever heard that.
I know on YouTube, parents placed their child's graduation, but it's not live.

I tell you what, Call these numbers, to the Naval base. See if they can direct you on your question. 1 847-688-5670 or 1 847- 688-2405

I do doubt it, but with the Navy, nothing surprises me. They're always changing something. Good luck.
Please let me know, so if it's true, I pass the word around.

By the way, when the graduation date? I'll love to share information I do know.
Thank you so much.
Take care and God bless.

Debi: Hello! They usually get liberty after the PIR ceremony is over (unless they are gran n go, which he should know if he is or not & should have told you), they usually have to report back at 9pm but it is completely up to their RDCs for their division as to when they can leave & when they need to return. They usually get liberty from 8am on Saturday until about 8 or 9pm, and then again on Sunday from 8am until 7 or 8pm (again it is up to their RDCs). The biggest thing we noticed about our sailor during his liberty was him asking what time it was about every 5 minutes or so (they are terrified of reporting back to their ship late, they need time to walk from the drop off point to their ship.......depending on the location of the ship it can take 20-30 minutes for them to walk there). They can also have duty or watch during liberty (if he will have it he will know & tell you), so they will need to report back in time to walk back to their ship &change into their proper clothing for their required watch/duty. We drove to our sailor's PIR. We stayed Thursday - Monday, I didn't want to miss one minute of time with him (also made it less stressful for us as far as traveling). Each sailor is different as far as what they want to do over PIR weekend liberty, some want to hang out with the family in their family's hotel room & just reconnect, others want to sight see & check out the surrounding area. The best thing to do is ask him in letters what he would like to do, it will help you better plan your trip there. The drop outs are not surprising, it happens in every division, not just the ones that will go to seal training after boot camp. You might want to check with him to see if anyone in his division will not have family attending for him & if you are open to it, have him invite them to join you for a meal or for the whole weekend (many sailors don't have family attending their PIR or writing to them during boot camp). We ended up with two sailors from my sailor's division for most of PIR weekend, they were so happy to be included.
How far into boot camp are you? There is an awesome boot camp moms group on here, it's mostly moms with recruits in boot & some veteran moms that offer info & advice. The Ohio group that I invited you to join is moms from all over Ohio, there are plenty in your area!
If you have any other questions just ask! ~Re

Dear Debbie,
How are you doing today? Great, you have been not as emotional. See, everyday will get easier.

Just prepare yourself, when you do receive that first letter. The letters do get more uplifting. Before you know it, your son will be writting in Navy lingo. That's fun trying to figure out! HAHA!

How sweet of your boss's wife. Wait, you'll start buying Navy things. I'm a walking advertizement for Navy for moms.com!! HAHA!!! I'm more Navy then my daughter Kim! HAHAA!!!

Let me get going. I just got the computer an hour ago, 3 AM, so I'm rushing thoruhg! HAHA! This is normal for me.! HAHA!
Have a blessed day.
Take care and God bless,
Barbara

Dear Debbie,
I remember one mom asked me that question, she invited anyone and everyone she ever met, to the gradation. I think the mailman was also invited!! HAHA!!

So he wrote first to his grandparents! That's a new one. How many times they write to the girlfriends first!! Some how, at some point us moms get pushed aside! UGH!

So I'm guessing your son is on his third week of Boot Camp.

That's lousy when the Division is messing up, all the recruits get screwed up with that. I know, now the phone calls are earned.

How are you holding up so far? I was a nervous wreck last year. Then after graduation, my daughter Kim said she loved Boot Camp. I have hard that from other Navy moms as well.

This is my second missed birthdays and holidays. Thank God, Kim now has friends, and they do everything together, even for birthdays and the holidays. After they graduate, they have their freedom back. They all leave base on the weekends! HHA! Now Kim reports on what movies are worth watching!! HAHA!

Let me get going. Please stay in touch.
Take care and God bless,
Barbara

Dear Debbie,
How are you.? That's wonderful that family are interested in seeing your son graduate, but it's realy designed for the immediate family. They can go to Great Lakes, and share the weekend wiht you. But as for the graduation hall,
seating is limited. There's 80 Sailors to each Division, and there are 10 Divisions a week that graduate. The place is packed!! HAHA!

How far into Boot Camp is your son?
The first letter comes around the third week. I warn moms that first letter sometimes is sad. If it is, don't panic, the letters will become more uplifting.

Once your son gets into the rountine of Boot Camp and over being homesick, he'll like Boot Camp. They all do beleive it or not.

The next phone call usualy is after the letter, the following weekend.
You should get at least 3 phones before graduation.

Please stay in contact with other Navy moms. I'm always around. Together we'll help you through Boot Camp....we haven't lost a mom yet! HAHA!
Please don't hestitate to write.
Take care and God bless,
Barbara

Dear dtameriano,
How are you doing today? This Navy for moms is such a blessing.
When is your son's graduation?

For the graduation, seating is very limited. The Navy only permits 4 tickets.
On the Form letter, it now has that moms can download one car pass, but that's optional. If you do plan in parking on base, you will need it.
Otherwise, most of the local hotels supply a shuttle to and from the graduation.

Don't even tell your son what's going on!! He does need to focus on himself passing all his tests.

I have no family on either side, so it was on my husband, older daughter and myself for my daughter Kim's graduation.

Just to let you know, after the graduation, your son will be picking up his Navy pictures. In most cases, our beloved Sailors give the parents the honor of paying for the pictures. Last years smallest package cost us $140. Just to get an idea, they're not cheap! UGH!

I hope to hear from you again. I'm always around. Please don't hestitate to write.
Take care and God bless,
Barbara
