Duty Stations?

OMG Thanks so much! I adore you right now haha! I really appreciate it. I'm guessing that the ship locations on the bottom are from where they deport from? It's a lot coming out from Norfolk. Where...

When you do your A school in Pensacola, you will notice what bases most want to be on, they talk about it. (I know because a girl that recruited my daughter, and worked for me is Air Traffic Control) . When you test at A school, the higher you are ...

Great blog. Hey, I joined the Navy to put a roof over my head. That was a long time ago, but the core idea is the same. I'd been raised Navy, so I'd traveled, and knew what the lifestyle meant. What I wasn't prepared for was the sense of accompli...

Strike NAS Brunswick off the list. Its closing down soon. You didn't want to go to Maine anyway, did you frenchie? Too darn cold. Emma

Any Naval Air Station (NAS), Naval Air Facility(NAF) or aircraft carrier would need air traffic controllers. Some air bases are part of larger Naval Stations. I'm sure this list is NOT complete: Naval Air Station Brunswick - Brunswick, Maine Nav...

Very few people don't make it through BootCamp because they can't swim. People who can't swim, go to the pool everyday during their training. But, there is a point in which you must pass the swim test by, or you will be set back in training from y...

last year at bootcamp they were making them swim a breast stroke after the jump. about 1/3 of the division can't swim when they first get there. (so says the dive instructor I met last October) Swim lessons are done on your personal time.

You take the swim test first. If you can't pass it, then they offer lessons, but only for a few weeks and you miss other stuff while you take those lessons and it can hold you back or end your Navy career prematurely. They expect everyone who join...

As Melissa said, getting from boot camp to A school depends on different factor such as how many are going to the same place/same time as you, and how big is your A school command. When I went to A school I was given a ticket and put in a bus wit...

Random Rambling Thoughts

Hey everyone. This is my first blog, and it's just me rambling off pretty much. I recently read a thread that caught my attention. It was about a mother who wanted her son to join the Navy, but the son lost interest in it. It got me wondering, how do all the future sailors in DEP feel about joining the Navy? Was it a choice they made on their own? Were they forced? Did they join because of a friend? Or was it for some other reason. Whatever the reason, I hope it was their choice.

I know two mon… Continue

Hi Frenchie, Angie from DEPPERs here. I was just reading your "can't swim" discussion. You got some good info from ladies who I can vouch know their stuff! However, I would really urge you strongly to try and take a session or two of swim lessons between now and when you leave. Although you can get extra help to pass, once you are there and bonded with your DIVmates, you really won't want to fail and be Asmoed back! It is frustrating and discouraging not to be able to graduate with your DIV and a potentially expensive change of plans for anyone who was planning to attend your PIR!! Make sure they purchase Refundable or Exchangable tickets (or buy flight insurance) just in case.

The more physically and mentally prepared you are BEFORE going in, the more successful and enjoyable your experiance will be. Not trying to undo your confidence or scare you, but honey, you did join the NAVY! Swimming is one of the essential components of learning to be a Sailor. Although there are Sailors who serve in the sand, you will probably be around-and in- water your whole career. Set yourself up with a good start. There is much to learn and the days are long at BC, you don't want to miss out on other training and have to use what little down time you have taking basic swim lessons. Obviously, you are a smart cookie. Congrats on going in as an E-3. =) I'm sure you'll be fine. I wish you all the best! Let me know if you have any other questions along the way. God Bless. :)

Hey there - did you say your date is 1/12/10? That is my son's date if he doesn't go early. Is this your first baby to go to the military?

Hi Frenchie,
My daughter is leaving on 1/7/10. She has requested to go earlier but that may or may not happen. Have you watch the boot camp and battle station videos them have some good information in them. Also if you have a question just put it out there and someone will be able to help you.

Hi Frenchie,

I read one of your post introducing yourself. My daughter is an officer in the Navy and I wish you the best as you prepare for B/C. If you aren't already start running!
