Got it! Great idea!!!

Well, indeed, we are the same age...I will be 47 in April. I have never been upset at my age -- no birthday has ever depressed me...overall, I am just astonished that I am THIS age, and that my children are grown/nearly grown....as I have been making the scrapbooks for each of the kids, I have had opportunity to reminisce about them, and it is shocking how time has flown....you know, the Bible says we are but a vapor...it's like taking a can of hairspray, pushing down the button, seeing the spray, and then it disappears...such is our lives here on earth...wow!!

I am SO impressed with your ambition! I can't see me even considering such a feat as a 5K run (or walk)... and your time is very good! Kudos to you!!! What a wonderful goal!! I am gearing up for my own big goal....I am making plans for major weight loss, hopefully starting by the first of the year...a woman we do business with has been sharing her story with me, and I am willing to give it a try...has to do with the glycemic index...that's all I know at this point, but I am very interested in learning about it and giving it a try. I would love to lose 50 lbs. ...I have clothes in my closet that are calling my name, and if I don't do something now, I will never see that day again!!! Girl, since my hysterectomy, my whole body has gone haywire!! LOL My gynocologist put me on hormone replacement therapy after my surgery...my primary care physician had a coniption fit and told me to get off of them...said to take Black Cohosh...I smoked that for 6 months and it didn't do a thing for me...(not really, I took it orally, but to no avail)...so I live with having my own private summers, and have steadily gained weight over the past 4 years.

I cry easily too...I try to project a tough image, but I am really mush on the inside, dang it!! LOL

Yes, I make the dressing, the pies, the mashed potatoes, homemade rolls...fresh cranberry sauce, the works. You and I prepare Thanksgiving with LOVE, don't we? We also bring out the good china and the nice flatware, cloth napkins -- it is quite an affair! LOL

Yes, the day will arrive in the blink of an eye...Steve and I talked briefly yesterday about how it is hard to believe it is the middle of November...we didn't say "nearly December..." :-) Karl and I will go to St. Louis (which is about 100 miles from home) with Steve on Monday; he is supposed to spend the night somewhere the Navy tells him, then we will spend Tuesday with him until he has his final swearing in. I believe, once that occurs, they will whisk him off...

Are you still putting up the tree tonight? Make a celebration of it. Stephen is not into decorating, but he really did help me drag the decorations out and put the boxes back up. I really appreciated his help this year -- usually I do it by myself -- and it is a JOB!!

I hope the Stephen and David will get to call us on Christmas!! Wouldn't that be wonderful?

Phyllis, I appreciate you more than you can ever know. I have been on Navy for Moms since about February, but have never found someone to connect with. Thank you for your friendship.

Bless your heart, you cannot see, can you? I am neither young nor gorgeous...unless you are too? Based on the information you have provided, I would guess you and I are about the same age...and it is getting to where it kinda stinks...my body is not cooperating with me...

LOL -- I have never played real golf either -- LOL -- he just lets me drive the cart -- LOL...occasionally I will sneak in a hit, but I think he just really wants me to be there and ooo and ahhh at his shots -- LOL. And,,....he needs someone to help him watch and locate the ball after he hits it....ahh, it is both fun and funny.

We do not own a xbox, nor a wii, but have a wii at work that we play with the residents....occasionally I bring it home and we have a good time playing together on that...so I understand what you are talking about with Scott and David playing the xbox....sometimes I just laugh my head off...

The wave board certainly sounds exciting, but I'm with you -- leave me in the boat!!!!! I'd like to drive the boat (have never done that!) FAST!!!!! The best I can do is drive a golf cart as fast as it will go -- which isn't very fast! LOL

"I will be excited for our Thanksgiving Christmas Day with Stephen..." for HIS sake! I am glad Thanksgiving will be at our house, which it usually it is, as everyone will be there (except my brother and his family from Alabama) for the dual celebration....and I will smile and be happy!!! LOL Someone suggested that we take everyone OUT to eat and not have the stress of fixing the meal, but the kids really enjoy Mom's Thanksgiving, and since it is Stephen's last for a while, we will carry on as usual. I plan to take off work the Weds. before to prepare...(I may need to take off part of the Tuesday before to pick up Holli at school)...and will be off Friday, Sat., Sun., probably Monday, and then Tuesday to see Steve off. The weekend will be a whirlwind....and I probably really won't lose it until Tuesday......

Your Christmas will be harder than mine....at least both of our daughters will be home for Christmas (and probably the boyfriend of our oldest). It is hard to think what it would be like with no children at home for Christmas, but I know that day is fast approaching for me, too. How will you spend the day?

This morning the temp was in the 30's, but it is supposed to get into the 60's....we have been having unusually warm weather for this time of year...snowfall varies year to year...overall, we don't have a GREAT lot of snow -- more frequently, we seem to have ICE, which is worse!! Do you ever have snow?

LOL, I knew Faith wasn't your name, but it is a nice name, isn't it? I liked your "handle" -- havefaith. Yes, the new picture is me....

Tell me about wake boards...I'm from Missouri, and can only presume it has something to do with the water, like a surf board? What is the weather there like now? Will he be able to go wake-boarding before he leaves? (Golfing weather is just about over here for Stephen...)

I'm still not too excited about Christmas, but am glad we were able to get Stephen something that he wanted and will have a chance to use before he leaves....

Stephen just called and wants me to leave work to go golfing with him...so I am going to wind things up here and head off with him -- after all, we won't have many more days to do this....will write more later.

Yes ma'am. I got your check, made your candles, and you should have your candles no later than Monday. Thank you so much and have a great day!

Ahhh, so your name is Phyllis...not Faith -- LOL You changed your name, and I have changed my picture...I showed Stephen the picture of him that I had put for my profile, and he didn't like it...(I thought it was handsome!!)

Isn't it wonderful that we can enjoy our work so? I really love babies, and would enjoy what you are doing also. Think about it and pray about it, but I would not make any quick decisions about what you do or do not want to do right now -- you are in a time of major, major transition in your life...one transition at a time is enough!!

Aren't Baptists a MESS? We are in the midst of an 8-year denominational battle where our state convention has brought legal suit against the organization I work for (as well as 4 other agencies) -- it is a battle for control. Millions of dollars have been spent in legal fees that could have gone for Kingdom work!

Wow, what a diagnosis to receive...praise the Lord for your response to chemo. I will be praying for a great report, too.

Actually, I am a social worker by education, a nursing home administrator by profession. I highly admire nurses, but could never be one -- I don't DO blood, needles, wounds, bodies.... I like dealing with people with their clothes ON. lol But I really do love my work!!! Am playing (actually calling) Bingo this morning -- they always want me to call because I do different things, or we talk about funny things throughout our hour together. I hit golf balls with a male resident out in our field yesterday afternoon -- I spend more time "playing" than working -- it is GREAT!!! LOL

I have never been out of the church, per se, but have had several bouts of discouragement within the church...and am in one of those funks now...my dearest and best friend, who is 77 years old, considers herself a Bapticostal (cross between a Baptist and a Pentacostal)...and she accompanies me to various local churches, which I justify as PR for work -- LOL. My husband, who is a deacon, is so disgusted with church that he chooses to go to work (that justifies HIS absence from church) -- saying that's where his ministry is...(he is the CFO). Another friend of mine told me over the summer that I was at a cross roads, and that I knew I needed to do something,...make a move....that I just needed to figure out what the move was....it is very complicated. Serving and worshipping HIM should not be complicated, but it seems the politics of church (which should not be there either) make things complicated. So, put me on your prayer list!

Tell me about your lymphoma....
My dad died of colon cancer at the age of 62 (14 years ago).

We bought Stephen's Christmas present last night -- a new pair of golf shoes -- he plans to wear them this weekend when he goes golfing with his girlfriend's dad -- then we will "wrap" them back up for him to open on Thanksgiving -- LOL

Have you gotten that tree up yet????

Yes, we have had lights everywhere, too. My husband got out this weekend and put up the outside lights, as the weather was so lovely here. (I really didn't care if he did or didn't, but tried to act excited and pleased with his work...)

Once Stephen leaves, we will have empty nest -- our oldest, Ashley, is 25 and has been pretty well on her own for about 5 years...now Stephen and Holli are flying the coop...LOL We have been married for 27 years and this certainly is a new phase for us, too.

Until Holli went off to school, I was the youth leader at our church, too... (Baptist)...but when Holli left, I no longer felt called to minister in that fashion. Actually, my real love for ministry is with senior adults. Both my husband and I work in denominational long-term care -- both of us have been serving for 25-plus years -- and I think I have the best job in the world. I laugh my head off every day -- it is never boring!!!

Bending is not easy, is it? It is not always easy going with the flow...changing, keeping your mouth shut and letting them suffer consequences, allowing them to make mistakes,... We want to protect them from the "screw ups" we did or almost did... We want them to remain close to us, physically and emotionally....makes me think of our visit to see Holli this past weekend...it was both painful and exciting to see the new life she is living...exciting to see how much she is thriving and loves it, how she has made so many new friends, and how involved she is both at the university as well as in a local church.....painful to see how her dependence on, and need for support from us and her friends at home has decreased. However, it is what parents really want to see: their children becoming independent and finding reward and fulfillment in life. Still, it brings a lump up in your throat...and that's how it will be with our sons, Faith,....they will thrive and become independent, as they should -- but, even though it is appropriate and desirable, it is still kinda painful....

What church are you and your family a member of?

I understand how difficult it is to think of being "up" at Christmas....I DO already have the house decorated, since we are having Stephen's Christmas on Thanksgiving night...but usually I am very excited about Christmas, and decorate the entire house...I have severely down-sized my decorating, and didn't really want to do the amount I did...(In addition to Stephen getting ready to ship out, our youngest daughter, who is 16, left for college in August -- about 7-8 hours away -- so our life has changed, and is changing, dramatically.) A dear friend of mine said, "Your life is changing, and you have to bend with it.." She is right...if we don't bend, we break.

One of the gifts I am giving Stephen for Christmas is a scrap book of him...it has been a joy to put together -- it is in no way professionally done -- just done with love. I am hoping he will enjoy looking at it before he leaves. (I am also making a scrapbook for my daughters as well -- have one of them done, and one to go.) I hope they will get as much pleasure out of receiving them as I have had making them -- besides, it gets all of their awards, report cards, school work, and pictures out of my cedar chest! LOL

When Stephen was little (in grade school) he always wanted his head shaved "so I don't have to wash it or comb it..." We never shaved it, but it was buzzed off close -- he wanted us to take a razor to it! LOL Stephen said he plans to get his hair cut closer before he leaves so "they won't have the satisfaction..." LOL
