I work fulltime in the telecommunications industry and work part time for Weight Watchers.
I am the proud mother of 2 sons, one of who is in the Navy and is currently stationed on the USS George Washington, the only permanently deployed aircraft carrier stationed in Yokosuka, Japan.
I am here to support or represent my:
Stage of (Sailor’s) Navy Career?
When I heard “Navy,” I:
Needed to learn more about it
From my experience with the Navy, the most important thing I learned was:
2 things. The Navy has been good for my son. It has taught him to interact with many people, talk to people, and to make new friends.
The second thing is that don't get in a hurry with the Navy. They work on their own time line and it may fit into your plans or it may not. It always seems that if you are trying to fit his plans into yours, you never find out until the last minute!!
Through this Navy experience, I now believe:
It was positive and maturing. Our relationship has grown stronger.

Hello Kathy - looks like you are going day after me. I am so glad they are alright. I know, all I know to do is be ready to go and then just check flight info to see status. I emailed my son that I am coming unless he tells me otherwise. Will email you my number and number I will have in Japan. No matter what, I just want to see my son even if briefly, even if had to postpone for a matter of days. I know you are probably the same.
Just a suggestion. Kathy, just wanted to let you know that Build A Design has banners for free for the military. You design them and pay just for shipping. I paid less then 15.00 for shipping. Hope this helps.Delete Comment
When Katie flew to Japan via the Navy, she flew out of Chicago direct to Tokyo. Sometimes paying a little more is better than flying way out of the way. Airlines tickets are crazy anyway. Havey any idea when the 'high' or 'popular' season is for Japan when tickets are up just because of that? I know someone at work at was going to buy tickets for Florida over Christmas and waited 1 week and had to pay $150 more a ticket. My husband works for Northwest/Delta and it amazes me the prices, but then how many are flying when we decided to go anywhere. We have yet to see about going to Japan. We know Katie plans on coming home a time or 2 while she is stationed in Sasebo for 3 years. Dave use to have a passport back when he was in the Air Force, but only Katie and our daughter Alicia have passports now...Alicia needed it since she is at Lake Superior State in Sault Ste Marie and does nursing clinicals in Canada at times.
My daughter Katie is on the USS Essex out of a Sasebo and someone she knows is coming home Dec 13-26 and the got their ticket through www.sky-tours.com Fukuoko->Tokyo-> Dulles Airport->Detroit and then returning Detroit-Chicago-Tokyo-Fukuoko for under $1,200. Hope that helps with your plans.
Kathy my son Chris is also in Combat Systems department but in the CS9 division so I don't know if he will have any contact with my son. Chris is an ET3 and enlisted in Dec 2006 and finished boot camp in March 2007. I don't know if you've been following my story but I have heard from my son since Jan 12th this year. I finally contacted the ombudsman and at 12:30 am 9/25 received an email from the master chief who sent me a number. I called the Master chief and he told me Chris does not want to speak with me. The sad part is I have no idea why. Anyway if you accept me as a friend I can send you my private email and include my sons last name. If your son doesn't want to get involved I understand but when I saw they were in the same division I just had to ask. thank you, barbara
