Profile Information

About me:
My son left for BC on June 11 - Division 273, Ship 13. He is PS unless he can get a vision issue corrected and then he wants special forces - particularly/possibly diving. I am very proud of my son and I look forward to getting to know other moms/supporters as he navigates (haha) his way through his new life in the Navy. (did I make the right choice below for stage in his career?)
I am here to support or represent my:
Son/Daughter
Stage of (Sailor’s) Navy Career?
In the NROTC program
When I heard “Navy,” I:
Was proud and encouraged it
From my experience with the Navy, the most important thing I learned was:
the importance of teamwork, love of country (continuing and growing), patience, how friends become family away from home, everyday letter writing, how to pack a great care package, and (certainly not least) to be a good wife/partner keeping things running smoothly at home to alleviate stress in the sailor. I learned this from my time as Navy wife 29 years ago - now I hope to communicate this kind of support to my son as he ventures in.
Through this Navy experience, I now believe:
The Navy was not the right path for my loved one/me.

Hi Katlanta,
Our boys were shipmates in BC and Jake is pretty sure he knows John. Of course, they don't go by their first names so he asked me to find out what John's last name is. I know it can't be shared publically so please send me an email to ddlee@roadrunner.com. If Jake is right, they were pretty close and he is thrilled that they are stationed on the same boat. He wants to exchange emails with John.
Let me know.
Thanks,

Dawn

Hi Katlanta-
My son Eric is also new to the Navy (PIR 6/26/09) and is a Yeoman. Maybe he will get to know your son, since their jobs are similar and they are both assigned to the GW. I know your son is anxious to get on board and get into the swing of being a sailor. Eric seems to be getting used to it but complains about sleeping on the racks! Anyway, just wanted to say hello and to wish your son good luck.

Hi Katlanta - I know, after posting that I talked to my son and realized that they werent room mates.... however, like you said they may know each other. Robby has only been there a little over a week so is still meeting people everyday! He is on hold for a month so kind of bored...but enjoying in none the less!! It was nice to 'meet' you and I am sure we will run into each other in various chats!!! :)

Good luck to you son w/ his eyes...that would be great if the Navy can correct it and he can change to the job he wants...either way, just having better eyesight will be a huge plus!!!!

This is YOUR week! You must be so excited about PIR...you will be in total awe of the event! Congratulations to your new sailor in advance, safe travels to GL and take lots of photos to show off at the picnic. New sailors LOVE getting their photo taken in their dress uniforms...really. They are so proud to make it to that point and to be able to wear that uniform.

Good morning katlanta. Did you start up an excercse group on N4M? I thought I had read somehwere that you either had or were going to, but I wasn't sure. I am one step closer to the "stunning" mark as I have finally met my daily goal of 3 miles a day on the treadmill. Yay! Now I just have to hit the weights. Yuck.

I RSVP'd for Meet and Greet. There will either be 3 or 5 of us - something we won't know until just before leaving. Daniel is in DIV 271.

Is the meet and greet for everyone who has a PIR date of 8/7 or just a specific DIV? Just noticed no one from my son's div/ship is on there.
