My understanding is that it is "possible," maybe even "likely" that any male corpsman could be assigned to a marine combat unit. It all depends on "the needs of the Navy" at any given time. You may find more information on the Corpsmen Moms page. Best wishes to you and your son!

I should have said that anyone under 12 doesn't need to be on the list they just need a birth certificate. Thats what we did to stretch our 4 invites....we bumped a couple of kids and added two adults. Hope that helps.
Any other questions??

Karen-
If your son has time to change his list he can delete anyone who is younger than 12 and add someone who is older than 12. Anyone younger than 12 needs a birth certificate to get in. Dont forget that!
If you can't reach your Son to have him add his friend to the list he will be placed on a wait list on the day of graduation and allowed to sit in the stands where there is room. All seats in there are pretty good.

Lots of people do that!

From what my son told me...as long as your son's friend is with ya'll going through the gate and has his ID, he'll be able to get in.

Yes, my son and I watched The Guardian just days before he left and it is accurate - very. Good movie - it's the Coast Guard's rescue swimmers in the movie but the jobs are exactly the same.

Schooling is 1 1/2 years long......starting in Pennsacola, going to San Diego and then a portion of training in either Maine or (I think) New Mexico. If you go to my groups on the left side of my page, there is a group called Air Rescue Swimmers. There are a bunch of great Moms on there and this is where I get a lot of my info. There's a part on that page that details the schooling - it's very intensive and has a high attrition rate. But you know what determination can do for one! :o)

We live outside of Austin - have been here forever, I have a sister in Dallas so I know the area - did you live there long? It is so HOT here - we've had 40-something days this summer with temps over 100 degrees.

Yes, rescue swimmers are special op's - next? :o)

Hello! I was just browsing pages and came across your posting about rescue swimmers....my son is in Boot Camp, Ship 4 Div 842 and he has a contract for rescue swimmer. His PIR is Sept. 3. I'll send you an invite and we can message each other - I know a lot about this as I've been studying it for quite awhile. You're so close to PIR, yay for you! ~Kerry

I am actually an Illinois native! But I am always cold too! I am wearing a dress and bring a sweater just in case!
I just got to talk with G (my son) for about 20 min! He said he wants to change his job to Rescue swimmer instead of SEALs. He said he would go to Pensacola after Boot Camp. I'm a little worried, because he has wanted SEALs for so long. But I told him that I respected his decision, and that it was his life and his job, not mine :-)
He said he can't wait to come home for Xmas. He got his BD cards and he said his bunkmate told him Happy B Day!
