You and your family are in our thoughts and prayers. As much as we want to continue to guide our children, sometimes they have to "learn the hard way". Restriction is difficult. There are limited phone calls etc. A family situation such as what yo...

I am so very sorry about your mom's passing and your son's restriction. I am going to try to send you an email now. Yes, the Ombudsman is the right path to contact your son. Cindy

Perhaps you might want to encourage your son to talk with his chaplain about his situation. They are wonderful resources and can be very helpful at stressful times such as this one. Hope this helps you both.

Profile Information

About me:
I was really glad my son chose to join the Navy since I 'm a former Navy brat myself. My Dad was career navy as a pilot and then as a CO --ships and subs. I was born at Bethesda Hosp, but we lived in DC, Maine, and VA. I've been in Ohio for 30 years. My two brothers also did their Navy time, one a corpsman and the other, umm, some kind of mechanical thing. They both still live in Va. I have 3 kids--Andrew, his younger brother, and his older sister. I'm a grandma too and I'm here in Ohio taking care of my mom, who unfortunately has ovarian cancer, 2nd time around.
I am here to support or represent my:

Stage of (Sailor’s) Navy Career?
Enlisted
When I heard “Navy,” I:
Was proud and encouraged it
From my experience with the Navy, the most important thing I learned was:
That he's a good writer and can actually spell!
Through this Navy experience, I now believe:
It was positive and maturing. Our relationship has grown stronger.

My Mom Passed Away...

It has been a while since I've been to the N4M's site. My mom passed away May 14, 2009. The Red Cross and Andrew's Duty officer was able to fly him home while she was still alive, so he was here for mother's day and a few day's after her death. It has been very hard for him, he's been stationed in California, had to use his leave days for the visit. My daughter was married June 27th so he was not able to attend that. Now he's in trouble and has 50 days of restriction. He will go on his first dep… Continue

Inauguration Day

It has been a long time (other than my son's PIR ) since I felt more patriotic, more inspired, more filled up with gratitude for this great nation of ours--that someone with a name like Barrach Obama--what? how do you spell that?-- ever had a chance to be elected as our President, as our Commander in Chief. I have to say, this whole historic event has fostered in me a renewed faith in the judgement and consciousness of my fellow citizens.

Now, while I happily and wholeheartedly welcome in the n… Continue

Blue Candles

Posted this on the New blue candle event but I'm pasting it here too.

"Here in Central Ohio, the candle will shine in our home on holidays and other significant times throughout the year.

We were lucky that Andrew was able to come home for Christmas and New Years prior to his first and upcoming deployment. I lit the candle Christmas eve and he already knew why I was doing it. Boy, word gets around fast! He loved the idea as he knew a few of his shipmates would be spending the holidays on base.… Continue

Countdown to PIR among other things.

Like many wonderful Navy Moms, dads, friends and family members, I'm on pins and needles anticipating the next batch of recruits who will graduate on 8/22--my son being one, of course. I am so proud already that my son has made it this far through BC; I am about to burst with pride and joy for him. From his letters, I've learned that my son has discovered some talents that he didn't know he had. I wrote him back that even though BC is such a grueling and sometimes frightening experience--because… Continue

from phone call comment

Thanks everyone for the comments and reassurance--I love N4M's. My original post--the one that got wiped out by my touch pad--was about the weird things I had to do with my cell phone to make sure that I was not in a dead zone when he tries to call, or to make sure I could hear it. I didn't get to talk to him the 2nd time he was allowed to call because my phone was not getting a signal. He did finally manage to talk to his sister, but for only three minutes he said.

I did find out that his divi… Continue

My heart goes out to you and your family as we lost my mother 11 months ago and there is still a huge void in all of our lives. You have been so brave and strong to weather all of these major changes and losses in your life so close together. I think that Patricia's post hit in on the head: you have had more than your share but remember that God's in the plan and He will see you through. I hope that you'll find comfort in the fact that your children seem to be doing well in life and I'm sure you and your mom had a hand in that. May He give you comfort and His peace.

PS, do you have any pictures of your dad with his plane (s) you could put on the Navy History Group pages? We'd love it, a lot of aviation fanatics there too! Thanks.

Hi Suzzane, thank you so much for the kind comment on my blog. I am sending prayers to all of you and grandmother. I know it has to be hard for Andrew to be away, I know it is for Ben. Bens PIR was in Sept. He finished A school Dec. 19th and came home for 5 days/ He os now back at P-cola awating a dental appt. to have his wisdom teeth out, then he will join his ship, the USS Carl Vinson. What is Andrew doing now? Is flying part of his schooling or just a mode to get to and from home? I will be praying for all of you!
