Got a letter and the Grad Pack from Drew today. The Grad Pack is sent by the RTC I think. It came seperate. The Grad Pack is just a letter with info about graduation just like on the RTC website. There is also a parking pass and a color brochure about the area hotels etc...I heard that it would say if they were a grad-and-go. So I guess Drew is not one of those. Which makes me happy so we can spend more time together. Hope you got good news in the mail too! Thursdays are now my favorite day. See Ya Deb

Hi Traci,
Wooohooo! Congrats to you.... I bet you were so excited! If a letter is coming my way I hope it gets here soon. How did your son sound? I just hope they are ok. Did you say the graduation will be on the 17th? I had heard they are usually on Fridays. We are coming to the ceremony, so I am anxious to make those reservations. Can't wait to meet you all...please keep in touch!
Take care, Donna

Traci, I read your blog and I'm new at this, so I hope you get this. I understand exactly what you are experiencing. Our son Jake went to Great Lakes in January and graduated in March. You might think getting his clothes returned was tuff, just wait until Graduation it is an awsome experience. That first letter you get will be like someone lifted a boulder off of your shoulders. You should get a phone call in about 2 more weeks. My son is now stationed in Norfolk and is presently out to sea. He is aboard the USS George Bush. I got pictures off of the Navy News Service website. It helps me keep in touch even though we have no communication until he gets back into port. Once he graduates and then goes onto A School you will be able to send his personal items. After my son got to A School, he bought a laptop so that alone has made our communication better. I miss him as he is the baby, but I'm getting ready to go through it all again as our other son is taking his test next week and then we will find out when he goes to Great Lakes. When you go up to his Graduation if you want a nice place to stay I highly recommend the Candlewood Suites as it is a great location and you can get a 1 bedroom suite with kitchen to cook him a home cooked meal upon his graduation and remember this he will have not seen a TV, heard any news channels, etc., so if is like any other normal young man he will watch TV that first day just to get caught up in either sports, news or whatever his interests are. Talk to you soon.........Jake's MOM

Hi & welcome to Navy for Mom's:)) You will find a lot of answers, support and encouragement here. My daughter, Ashley (20), has been in the Navy since July 2007 and is an IT3 & my son Tim (19), an SH, has been in since Feb 2008 stationed on the USS Nimitz. What will your son be doing with the Navy? If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to ask. I'm glad you joined and look forward to hearing more about you & your recruit. Pat

About me:
My son left for boot camp a week ago today. I am a married mom of 4. My son, Nathan, is my 2nd child. I am a Labor and Delivery, surgical tech. I work part time and live in Wheaton, IL. My husband and I are still getting over the reality that one of our children is now in the military. We didn't think about that being in any of our childrens future. Now we are 100% behind his decision and feel it was the right one. He will fit well in the US Navy. I want to join this website so I can talk with other Navy moms/parents.

When I heard “Navy,” I:
Was proud and encouraged it
From my experience with the Navy, the most important thing I learned was:
Our son started out at a 4 year university in Illinois. He enjoyed his "college life" a little too much, joined a fraternity, and just did not put much into the academics. He made a great decision to join the Navy. He will find the structure and direction along with the dedication I think he needs and we have done nothing but encourage him in this decision. I learned that whatever a parent thinks they have planned about any of their childrens future is easily altered and not as much in our control as we might like to think it is.
Through this Navy experience, I now believe:
It was positive and maturing. Our relationship has grown stronger.

Yea, a letter today!!!

Hi girls. Debbie and Donna- I am so excited that your sons are in Nathan's division. We will DEFINATELY keep in touch!
I got a letter and the form letter TODAY! Both were mailed at different dates but arrived to me in Wheaton, IL today. The form letter had a couple of sentences from him and that was on the 26th. He said they had not started PT yet but would start the 27th. Then, he wrote a full page explaining what has been going on, he sounded so good and happy. He seems to like it but does say… Continue

Great Lakes Boot camp

I was wondering if anyone could tell me how long it will be before I hear from our son? He has been gone and arrived at Great Lakes a week ago today. We got his "box" of things last Friday. That hit hard. I cried. We do not know his address or anything. He sent back the stamps we gave him so hope they allow them to buy more.

Any info would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Traci
