When I heard “Navy,” I:
Was proud and encouraged it
From my experience with the Navy, the most important thing I learned was:
Never take freedom for granted. I have also learned that I must trust my daughter's ability to make decisions. It is important to be supportive and offer advice when asked; however, I cannot get in the way of letting her handle her own affairs.
Through this Navy experience, I now believe:
It was positive and maturing. Our relationship has grown stronger.

One of Mary's favorite pastimes is tap dancing.

Hey, Maggiemay! Say, if we were to change restaurants for the Westie dinner, where would you like to go? You're our lady with "special tastes," so I'll let you pick. This will be for November (Oct has already been out there for a while & someone has RSVP'd). And I guess we'll see you next on the 10th! Hugs, k.

Hi Maggie - great news! Andy passed his re-comp today and will be heading home tomorrow morning! He sounded so excited on the phone, and we are thrilled to know he overcame the obstacles and did so well this time. Thanks for the thoughts and prayers! Rhonda

Just wanted to let you know that my son did not pass the Power School Comp yesterday, so we will not be making the trip to Charleston this weekend. Fortunately, he will be able to re-take the test next Wednesday (he only missed it by 5 points). He and 13 other sailors will have intense study and class time till then, and hopefully they will all pass next week. There will be no graduation ceremony then, so he'll get his certificate and head home for a week's leave. What a roller coaster ride this Navy stuff is - geez!

Hi Maggie. I just wanted to let you know that I am excited about meeting you and your husband too! What a perfect get away for you two. I also wanted to say that some of the pages I visit have music that is VERY annoying...yours is nice! See you in Warsaw!

Maggie -

The issues with the Inbox not working should be resolved. I'm sorry for all the inconvenience - it was happening across the board to all members (myself included). Please let me know if you're still having problems!

Howdy Maggie!
I know what you mean...this week just went on, and on, and on... I am so thankful that we have this long weekend to sleep in! Ryan is doing really well. He had fun at SALT camp, and he seems to have settled in very well, despite the hectic schedule for the last 2 weeks. He said that he likes his classes, professors, and is enjoying ROTC a lot. He is usually cautious about new situations, and it takes time to adjust. But he seems genuinely happy and confident. He sounds "all grown up." The only thing is...he's caught a little cold, so he went to the medical clinic yesterday. They said he has a little virus and just needs to rest, drink lots of liquids, and no exercise for a couple of days. He's been working out everyday, even though they have not been doing PT. He was so worried about the PRT on Friday, because he had a cough and felt horrible. He ended up doing very well.

It's finally started to cool down a little here in TX. It's only in the 90s, instead of 100s, and we finally got some rain yesterday and today. Our poor lakes are dried up!! I don't think anyone will be boating on the lake this weekend! We don't have much planned for the weekend. I am definitely looking forward to sleeping in all weekend! My husband just left for a safari trip to Namibia today, so it's just Deric and I here at home! It's so different without Ryan!

I wish I had some new pictures of Ryan w/his new "haircut." I asked him, "do you have any hair?" He said "just a little, but I need to get another haircut!" He is really liking this ROTC/Corps routine. It's strict and regimented, but I think he likes the structure. I have to remind him to relax and join in the Aggie fun. He wanted to go to the football game, but just didn't feel up to it, so he decided to stay back in Galveston. Does Mary go to College Stn for the games? It looks like so much fun. I went to an A&M basketball game earlier this year, and it was a blast! Pres. Bush Sr. was there!

Enjoy your long weekend and I'll talk to you soon!

Take care...
Carolyn :)

Hey Maggie!
This sure was a long week! This was my younger son, Deric's first full week of school. I thought it would never end! He is starting at a brand new school, so there are always so many "kinks" to work out at a new school with new faculty and facilities. I'm sure he'll settle in and get used to his new routine. I'm sure he's also having to adjust to not having his big brother around to rely on.

Ryan sent me a text message last nite (that I didn't see until this morning) that said they were having PFTs this morning. At about noon he called me, after they were dismissed from O-week, and said that he did very well on his PFT. In fact, he said he almost met all the requirements for a perfect PFT score! The confidence and excitement from this week could clearly be heard in his voice. He already sounds so different; more focused, more "i love yous" being texted and voiced (gotta love that!) I hope he continues to stay on the right path. If you happen to look at the TAMUG O-week group picture, Ryan is in the 3rd row, 2nd yellow shirt from the right. It feels as though a year has already passed. This week seemed to last forever. I'm glad it's over!

Poor Mary! She is probably so exhausted from yelling at all of those freshmen fish! I'm glad that you finally got to speak to her, although it was brief. Every little text/call feels like Christmas!!! Ryan is now at SALT camp. I am glad he will be able to have some good Aggie fun before school starts.

Sounds like you and your husband have a nice, relaxing weekend ahead! Hope he has a wonderful birthday! Oh, before I forget, family weekend is planned at TAMUG for Oct. 23-24. Will you be going to this? We will certainly try to make every effort to go. Hope to see you there!

Enjoy your weekend!!!

Take care!
Carolyn :)

Hey girl, this thing is haywire isn't it? Anyway, I hope that you and your husband have fun for his birthday and I'm glad that your daughter is doing great. I will keep you posted with my situation. I have been kept quite busy with my daughter and her ROTC stuff. Myself and my son have a birthday coming up in September, but I won't celebrate it until he is home here in Texas. Well keep in touch, I know school is back in session and my kids are not the best bunch. I do Alternative Education. Ugh.... lol Have a good weekend.
