Deb - I know Jacob wishes he could be there. Guess the trade-off it that he got to be at Macy's parade and the rest of you didn't. (Not the same, I know - just trying to cheer you up!) Have a great time at the wedding with Rob being there.

Jane - can't believe you really looked for some on You Tube. Great idea. If you saw the instruments, the stringed one that looks like a bow from a bow and arrow is called a berimbau. The other is like a tambourine, only the little cymbals are reve...

Bea - I SO know what you are talking about! For my son's PIR, I got to go, but his wife took her mother and brother and they got to see him way more than I did. I always heard that when sons marry they go with the wife's family more, but man, this...

Margaret - just curious as to what Richard did in Brazil. Kelly spent a year there right after high school, because he wanted to study capoeira from the experts. I made him take Portuguese while there, so at least he came home fluent in that.

Sounds like Galen is doing great! The surgery was ok, except I've broken stitches twice. The first time, the doc deadened and re-stitched. The 2nd time, it was healing pretty well, so I haven't even told him - don't want to drag out this recovery ...

About me:
I have two grown, married children and one grandchild. My son who is in the Navy is an older recruit and has a 7 month old baby, so I probably don't fit the profile of the average Navy mom. However, I'm still just as interested in his career choice.

Hi Martty-it's Nancy Aaron's mom. Thanks for letting me contact you direct about A school in Groton. I'm hungry for any information I can get on what my son might be doing, etc.

Marty,
I've been trying to insert a photo on the PIR site but all I get is numbers and letters. Do you know how to do it?

Marty you are a doll to offer to pick me up. What time are you leaving? I am stuck in training for work until 4 PM then I head to Omaha, unpack-pack-get a bit of sleep- then head to Illinois. Call me anytime at 402 679 2914, and what is your number, maybe I'll track you down or at least keep you company on the drive out. Lora

well I hope he knows that marching is only one aspect of the ceremony, seeing them in uniform, knowing what they ALL accomplished to get there, the tests, comraderie, inspections, PFTs....anyhow, I just hope he knows that we all are proud of each one because whether they are standing in formation, holding a flag, ushering or spot checking, point is they all met the same requirements to graduate and tho some do this job and others do that....it was a team effort and graduation is a reflection of their success. Bravo Zulu Kelly!!

Hi Marty,
I just connected the dots and realize our sons probably have similar paths ahead. My son is set for 10/16 PIR (counting on continued success!) then headed to Groton with the rate SECF. He said there were 8 guys in his division headed for sub school, looks like there may be a pretty big group of guys headed to CT. I'm hoping you'll add me as a friend and keep me posted if you hear anything interesting.

Are you going to PIR?

As far as the book goes, I'm not sure about it for your son since he's already there. I'll let you know after I've finised reading.
