- Navy veteran from 1988-1993. Former Hospital Corpsman. Mom of 3 boys, hospice nurse, married to "a nice Greek boy" for 23 years, and is also a Navy veteran (AW3). My oldest son graduated boot camp on 8/27/10 and is now stationed on the USS Gonzales in Norfolk, Virginia. He is a 3rd class petty officer. We are very proud of him!

Mike finally texted me. Lol....He'd rather text me details than call! I didn't want to post anything about the suicide because others read it, but here's what he had heard. The suicide happened next to their building. The guy apparently used his boot shoe laces and hung himself in the bathroom shower. First thing I thought of was that scene from the movie "An Officer and a Gentleman". Shannong had mentioned that her dtr had said something about drugs, but how can a kid get into the navy with all the drug screening before and during bootcamp?? Oh well....either way it's so sad. The reason I was overly concerned was our boy told us that during laser shooting practice some kid had said he was considering suicide. Weeks later during one of our son's standing watch shift the police came and he had to announce over the intercom for all watch to turnover their pretend ( but VERY real looking)weapons due to police were coming in. Guess that kid was asmoed back a week according to what he heard. So hope THAT kid doesn't go forward to any of the A schools!!! Sad and very scary.
