Hello, I have the best Christmas story about my own sailor. This was many years ago. He was just 4 years old. At that time in our lives (myself and my three kids) well, to say the least times were tight. It was just me and my kids for Christmas an...

Profile Information

About me:
A mom of three, and my baby left for the Navy on October 29, 2008. I am proud of him. Love Washington and all the great outdoor things to do. Moved here 11 years ago from PA. And, yes, my baby is that much taller than me.At 6'3" and skinny as a rail, he looks so proud in his uniform. Enjoy the photos. They were taken over the past ten years and show how much I love to take pictures and how my kids have grown into such wonderful adults.

When I heard “Navy,” I:
Was proud and encouraged it
From my experience with the Navy, the most important thing I learned was:
Talk to as many other moms as possible. It is the only way you can get information about what is going on. This site was a precious commodity for that.
Mail may seem a small thing, but when I asked my son about it he said it was one of the bright points in it all. I sent letters but also lots of cards. He told me the cards always seemed to show up on the rough days and really helped take his mind off things, even if just for a minute. It is sad to know that some recruits/sailors don't get mail.
Through this Navy experience, I now believe:
It was positive and maturing. Our relationship has grown stronger.

Welcome to the group Nancy, wow where you live is absolutely beautiful. I would love to be there, but I'm a country girl at heart. Grew up in West Virginia. Tell your son thank you for serving our country. My son is on the Carl Vinson in Virginia, been in since 2008, and an ABF. What is your son going to do? You will love this group, everyone is so supportive, and very helpful, again welcome to the group. T

Great photos! Have you been to Deception Pass? That is a wonderful scene at sunset on a clear night!

The pics were taken over the years all of them in Washington. Mt Rainier, Long Beach, Ocean shores, Hoh Rain forest, Kalaloch...just to name a few. I was a camera nazi according to my kids. I just look back on the pictures now with fond memories and wonderment at the people they have become.

Hi Nancy, I was posting a photo on the Aloha Group and realized that I never logged on your Group how many boxes and letters we sent. Don't know if it matters now, but thought in case you want to update the final count...add 8 small flat rates boxes, inside one larger, plus a half dozen letters/notecards and one Luau CD - DJ mix! :-) Thanks for doing that. On to Guam! Hope to see you soon. where are your camping trip pics from?

I thought you would be the perfect person to keep track of our count. You can go ahead and start a discussion any time now...Aloha card and box count or something like that. Something that will get their attention. We (you) can keep track of the number of cards and boxes. I think we should count how many small boxes, so we know where we stand as to box per sailor. Thanks for helping!!
