The Box Arrived

Well I got home from Church this evening and there it was..... The Box!! But they forgot to put my kid in it lol. As I opened it I started crying and I was so proud that I hadn't cried in 2 days. It did look like he jumped right out of his clothes, the shirt was inside out, and one pant leg was turned inside out. Still waiting on the official letter and a call from him other than the 10 second I am here call. Can't wait for PIR it won't come soon enough. Thanks to all for all the comments and su… Continue

Address

My son left for BC on Thurday 9/24 at 2:38 am I got the "10 sec. I am here call" On Monday his recruiter gave me his address, but I have heard that sometimes that is not the right address. How long should it take for the "formal" letter to arrive and for his box to arrive. I know that when I arrive home and there is a box at the door, the flood gates will open again. Also I could use some good recommendations on decent but not overly priced hotels to stay at for PIR. Thanks again for all the sup… Continue

Tomorrow my Life will change

Well tomorrow my son leaves for MEPS. We will be taking him to meet the recruiter who will take him to Charlotte, Then on Thursday his Grandparents and I will be going to MEPS to see him sworn in. That is going to be amazing as well as a sad time. It marks the official new path in his life as well as mine. I miss him already and I still have tonight and tomorrow morning with him. The tears have been flowing off and on all day (more on than off lol). Then it is 8 lonely weeks for me. I know that… Continue

Good News and Bad News

Well, the good news is I now have 3 weeks left with my son, and the bad news is, he isn't getting to leave on 9/3 as originally planned, he won't be leaving until 9/24 now. 2 weeks ago he had strep, we took him to the doctor, they put him on really strong antibotics and all is well now. He kept incontact with his recruiter the whole time. Spoke to his recruiter on Wednesday and all was well to go. Told him to report to the recruit station at 13:00 on Monday. Then today he got a call from the Che… Continue

Thank you so much for the link! I lost the link somehow and was wondering if they have posted anything on our son. He graduated 10/9 and there is still nothing there. You will LOVE the graduation, it was AWESOME.

Hi Sandra,
I know the feeling about no letter again today. My husband called me at work with the results of the mailbox stalking! I really doubt we'll hear from our kids until later next week....
Bummer!

Hi Sandra, I'm thinking the Sailor's will be grateful w/ anything we send them just for the fact that someone thought enough to send them something. You can send as little or as many packages as you'd like. I would just need to know how many so that I can make sure all the Sailor's have been taken care of. Thanks for your help. Pat

Hi, I posted a blog last month regarding our sending holiday cheer to the Nimitz Strike Group. If you're still interested in helping, please let me know what you would like to send. Most are sending stockings w/ candy or goodie bags w/ treats from home. Thanks, Pat

Sandra,
Hi mine name is Becky and I live in Hickory. My son Adam graduated 9/3 and is on hold at GL awaiting MA school in San Antonio. Welcome to the bumpy ride call basic training. My thoughts are with you today as your son leaves from Charlotte. It is such a sad time but it will be a joyous time too because you will swell to bursting with pride in your boy. The first 3 weeks are the toughest because you will feel so out of the loop on what is going on since you can't talk with him. Write to him every day because they live for mail call as their connection to the outside world. Don't despair when you don't get to hear from him often. Just join the ranks of the mail carrier stalkers called Navy Moms. Letters from them usually arrive in this area on Thursdays because they are only allowed to write on Sundays during holiday routine. It WILL get better especially closer to BS21 and that long awaited call that says"Mom, I'm a Sailor!". Hang in there and let me know if I can answer any questions or if you just need a shoulder. Be there, done that.

{{Sandra}},
Yes it will get easier (as soon as he calls and says, I'm through battlestations, I'm a sailor) until then, the fountain will continue to flow, but you are far from being the first one to admit it. I cried for months before Chris left and I cried through half of bootcamp. (I still cry every once in a while, like in my public speaking class the other day) Anyway, I am taking the ASL Interpreter Education program at WPCC to be an interpreter for the Deaf. I will be in Morganton more and more as we have to participate in Deaf events, and there are many more there than in Hickory. Lunch, dinner, coffee, I'm game.
There are lots of moms here who understand the emotional roller coaster of pride, sorrow, frustration, and lonliness that you are and will feel for a while. The best way for me to look at it was that as long as Chris was at bc and school, he was safe. At least I knew there were lots of trained soldiers around him at all times. I just had to worry about the push ups and that he might not know when to shut his mouth! It was all good though. Make sure he is the first one at the recruiting office and show some hustle at the airport and he may end up getting an officer posistion at bc, or at least a select. (Not a posistion of authority but a posistion by name like Educational Petty Officer) Some RDCs will reassign duties when they arrive, by things they need to be good at in their careers. He will do fine. By the way, he's a nice looking man, I like the pic.
Better finish homework. I'll send you a PM with my email address and phone number. If you want to get together some time you can call me. Have a great evening.
Huuuugs mom,

I understand the despair of your future sailor leaving and the frustration of his having to waiting extra time. My son came down with strep and mono a few months before time to leave. I worried so much while he was in bc, afraid he would relapse. With all the physical and emotional adjustments he will have to make during those first few weeks, it is better that he has the extra time. Most sailors end up with the "crud" while they are at GL anyway. Good that he is getting antibiotics now. Plus they have to get a few shots during processing so better to get it out of his system before he goes through all that.
Maybe a few of us can meet sometime for lunch. I am in Hickory but I take classes at WPCC. My son is currently in S. Korea, he left bc in Jan., completed A school and C school at Virginia Beach in May. Would love to get to meet a few moms from this area.
Have a great day and enjoy your son while you can.
Navy Hugs,
Mary

Your upset about only having 2 weeks left and I am excited! Only two weeks until he graduates. I am just waiting to here if he is grad and go. Ugh!
I really want to be able to visit with him and take him to 6 Flags. I just ordered his Navy ring and cant wait to see it. I hope he likes it. It was hard him turning 19 yesterday and not being here. I am going to take him a cake. It will go faster than you think. I am looking forward to seeing how he has grow and changed.
