My first Fourth of July as a Navy mom

Today was my first Fourth as a Navy mom and I find that my feelings on this holiday have changed. Even though my son is just finishing his second week at RTC, I see him as a Navy man, he will make it through. I have always viewed the Fourth as a patriotic holiday, but it wasn't personal. It was a day to celebrate with my family and watch fireworks. Now I FEEL what it means to be proud to be an American and to celebrate that freedom. It was hard won and we continue to fight for the right to this…See More

Care Package Ideas

There are so many ideas out there, groups that actually will send packages or gifts to our troops, recipes, themes, all kinds of ideas it would be fun to have an area to store them even though we have them scattered in other groups.

Day 10 and still getting weepyTT

Posted on July 2, 2012 at 12:45am 2 Comments

Today is the 10th day since Tom went to BC. I went to write my nightly letter to him and found myself crying. Tom has always been my buffer and support when I had a bad day with his older sister (who is bi-polar, 21 and still lives at home since she can't find work) and today was really bad with her.

The started so good with me talking to Tom's girlfriend and working out a few beginning travel plans as she and I will be the only ones who can make it to his graduation. Then his sister…

Trying to get the hang of this

Posted on June 30, 2012 at 2:50am 2 Comments

So, it was a week yesterday since my son entered RTC. I have been putting off blogging about my experience with this whole deal because I tend to forget to keep up with stuff like this. This week has changed my mind though and I have decided to write down my personal experiences and feelings.

Tommy is my last child, I had a difficult pregnancy with him and almost lost him. I was so blessed by his birth and being able to watch him grow into a kind, generous, smart young man. He was my…

rosewomn & Maelene72,

I wrote this for another member whose son has been separated from the Navy.

"If he is separated and discharged, it's imperative that he has support and start to focus on alternative career paths. He will feel like a failure but he is NOT - not by a long shot. There are many worthwhile and well paying careers choices outside the Navy.  Our kids are our future. If they don't do well at one thing, we must help them find the inner strength to deal with disappointments and mistakes and help them transition to civilian life. You can not feel sorry for yourself and you must prevent him from feeling sorry for himself. "

HI Sweetheart. Please do NOT feel like you have failed your son. My son was very involved in sports, friends, church and everything he could get his hands on. When I spoke to him yesterday, he said like this "Mom, I'm sorry I got hurt. I guess it was a blessing from God because this place is not for me!" Hardest words I've ever had to hear because I too felt like a failure. We can't do that! Stay strong and know that even the most active kids in life with everything struggle. Be proud he tried. We all love ya guys here and will be here for support!

I hope you get all the information here you are looking for. Please stop by the Survival Guide for New Moms for some of the info to start with.
If you have a new Recruit and need phone cards for them please check out Calls for Recruits.org and get them for FREE.
