Johnsmom- I'm sorry to hear it didn't work out for your son. My son almost didn't get to go into the navy because of a car accident in Feb. He hit a telephone pole head on and broke his knee into 4 pieces. He has 4 screws and wire in his knee. They actually tried to discharge him from the Dep program. We had to fight the discharge. My husband and I armed ourselves with info for an "alternate life plan" for our son. Looking at community colleges that offered programs in the same thing he was going to do in the navy. We talked to him about if the navy doesn't work out you will just take an alternate route. And that the alternate route didn't mean a worse route. I emphasized always moving forward and that the car accident wasn't a set back, but rather a detour. My son went through a sort of depression thinking his dream was lost. It took me a couple months to realize what was going on. We got lucky, cuz so far the navy is working for him. I am only telling you this cuz I want you to be prepared when he comes home. I don't know your son's personality. Be strong mom and look for signs that something is wrong. Don't think he's changed just cuz he left and grew up. He is still the same son that left a couple weeks ago and will need your support now more than ever. I wish you and him the best in this next stage of life.

I'm new to this and having trouble navigating the site. Hopefully you get this. My son is in Ship 11 Div 334. He wrote me about the "guy" who disappeared and that nobody knows where he went but nothing more than that. He also said that their div started w/ 87 and is now down to 72 "or something like that". I hope all works out for your son. I thought the RTC site said that the recruits have to call home if something happens?? So you found out cuz someone from his div wrote him at home?

H said someone in their div ran away but they found them on the hwy.........I cant believe how happy he sounded--cant wait for you to write again!!

Hi Johnsmom, and welcome to N4M! My son left on Aug 3 also--but in 08--so we're a year into it. I live in Lucas Tx which is about 25 min north of Dallas. this site is a great support for you--esp. in these bc weeks, which are the hardest weeks ever! My son graduated from bc last Sept,, went on to hospital corpsman school (also in Great Lakes) and is now a corpsman (medic) with the Marines. He is stationed out of Camp Lejeune and leaves for Afghanistan in a few months. What are your sons plans for after bc? Have you heard from him at all? Those first few weeks are so hard, esp, if you don't get a call. My son only called me once during bc and it was really tough. And the one time he did I cried as soon as I heard his voice. Hope your doing okay.
