This candle will continue to burn until my son returns home. He is presently out at sea. I can't wait until I can talk to him to find out how he enjoyed doing this. They also had a special visitor yesterday.

Profile Information

About me:
I am 51, married and love camping and the outdoors. Love to work outside but due to 2 herniated discs am limited on what I can do, but I manage. I work for an insurance/financial company locally & my son worked there for over a year before enlisting in the Navy so we have lots of support at home.
I am here to support or represent my:
Son/Daughter
Stage of (Sailor’s) Navy Career?
Enlisted
When I heard “Navy,” I:
Was concerned or afraid
From my experience with the Navy, the most important thing I learned was:
That I am very proud of my son. My husband was in the Navy and our other son is waiting on a medical ok to join the Navy also. We hope that he passes and gets to join his brother.
Through this Navy experience, I now believe:
It was positive and maturing. Our relationship has grown stronger.

You are a very proud mom I can tell by your comments. Don't worry, the 8 weeks will fly by mine did. Jake actually graduated from HS here in Batesville, Indiana in 2008. What is your son specializing in? Our first phone call was very exciting, too. It's something I looked forward to. Since you live so close, that's really great. Money saver, too. Keep in touch and I'll let you know what else is going to happen. Graduation was so exciting and very emotional, so bring the tissues. I couldn't be more proud of my son than I am right now. Norfolk was actually his last choice to be stationed, but once he found out the ship he was going to be on, that really made the difference. Norfolk is about 12 hours from here, so if my husband and I wanted to take a long weekend to go for a visit, we could. He was actually home for Mother's Day, but left the very next day and it was just as hard as when he left in January. But in only 5 short months he has accomplished so much and we are very pround parents. If ever you want to talk just send me a message and I'll get back to you. Usually I'm on here about every evening except weekends as we go camping. Talk with you soon and you let me know when you get that first letter. You make sure you write each other no matter if it's just to talk about the weather. Since they have no contact with the outside world they have no idea what's going on and believe they will share their information with each other. Let him know you all miss him and are proud of him. It will pay off. I was I think more scared of Jake leaving for the service than I would be of seeing Bigfoot. Keep in touch. You are my first friend that I thought I could help, so keep your comments coming and I will return the same. Susie.........in Indiana

Hi,

Thanks so much for giving me all this info. I am feeling so sad. I don't know why I thought I'd hear from him by now because by all accounts I've read, it takes a good 2 or more weeks. It is just so strange. Nathan is our 2nd child of 4. My first son, however. Our daughter just graduated from college with a teaching degree. She's hoping to be employed for the next school year but subbing an option, if not. Our 3rd is another boy who's 12. Our baby is a girl who just turned 10. So we have many years ahead of child rearing. Having Nathan in the Navy is so strange. And no communication doesn't help.

We actually live in Wheaton, Il so only about 30 min. from great lakes. I think that makes it even more strange. Knowing he's so close yet so far. I hope we get his package of info soon. I am really anxious to know when his graduation will be. And what his address is so I can' send his letters I've been writing!

Take care and stay in touch. I will try to get on this website as much as possible but with school about out, busy with the younger kids and thier "stuff".

Hi & welcome to Navy for Mom's:)) You will find a lot of answers, support and encouragement here. My daughter, Ashley, has been in the Navy since July 2007 and is an IT3. What is your son doing with the Navy? If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to ask. I'm glad you joined and look forward to hearing more about you & your Sailor. Pat
