Hi Seabee Moms; I see here some of you have sons that are deploying to Afghan soon if not already. I'm attaching a link to an article that was in the latest Navy Times magazine regarding Seabee deployments - specifically NMCB 4 and NMCB 133. My son…

NO it is not true, they used to call them walk ons but that has stopped. We used to mail over 500 packages a year when I worked at the base. Usually you can not get onto a base with out military ID, if everyone tried to do this the expense would be…

For any of you that may have access to zuchinni squash, i make the hawaiian bread but using zuchinni instead of banana's... my family dosn't realize they're eating zuch bread instead of banana bread. Good way of getting some greens in the family... v

Profile Information

About me:
Hi; I'm a Mom to 3 young adults ( 2 boys, 1 girl). My middle son is 20 yrs old and is serving in the Seabee's. He joined on the DEP program and left for BC Jan of 2008. He went to A school in Gulfport and he's stationed on Coronado Island rite now. He's awaiting for first deployment (Sept??) to Afghanistan (well, thats what he's been told anyways!). My hubby served in the Navy aboard ship during Vietnam era, but that was well before my time with him. So this is all new to me having someone in immediate family serving in the military during war time... I joined Navy for Moms because sometimes its just good to read about the joys and fears that other Moms are going thru too! I like knowing that I'm not the only Mom out there ready to burst with pride but at the same time also scared silly! Besides all that, I work full time for a Logistics company and in my spare time I love to read and fuss about in my flower gardens.
I am here to support or represent my:
Son/Daughter
Stage of (Sailor’s) Navy Career?
Enlisted
When I heard “Navy,” I:
Was concerned or afraid
From my experience with the Navy, the most important thing I learned was:
The Navy dosn't always come thru with what was promised!
Through this Navy experience, I now believe:
It was positive and maturing. Our relationship has grown stronger.

My son, Sean was at Gulfport until September before going to Afghanistan. He has now left the base and is "somewhere"in Afghanistan (couldn't tell me). He called late Tuesday night and said that he will not be getting mail for two months so don't send anything. He sounded upset which then UPSET me. He also mentioned that he can possibly call at Christmas. Can they really not receive mail or have contact with family? This is painful!

Vicky, how are you doing? Holding up okay? Have you heard from Zach? Travis called late Sunday morning and I couldn't talk to him very long, passed the phone to his dad. I had just logged on to take a test, I am taking classes for an MBA and that was the only time I had "free" to take. Anyway, then I decided to write him a long letter, catching him up on what has be happening since we left him in Coronado. Now I think I will try to write a quick letter each week. Has your son requested anything sent to him? I was also thinking about sending some staples like peanut butter, crackers, Little Debbie cakes that T likes and stuff like that. Is there anything that Zach likes, I can throw in along in the box.

later, Cathy

Good morning, I just received another e-mail from Travis. I have been getting one about every 4 or 5 days. He doesn't say much but it is good to know they have access to be able to communicate. Also got a couple of short phone calls. He requested that we send him a set of bed sheets and a foam matress. I thought these to be odd request, but who's to know for sure what they need over there to make them feel comfortable? Later. Cathy
