I live in Spokane and have never found a N4M meeting out here. My son graduated BC in September and is now on the USS Essex based out of Japan. I would love to meet with other Navy Moms in the area. Let me know if you hear about any get togethers.

I found it on on a television commercial. The day my son left for boot camp I went on the site for the first time. That was July 8, 2009 and I check in about everyday. My son is on the USS Essex and I often share information I learn here with him.

Hi there, I left a reply on Kanga's blog about Eastern WA Moms, but dropped in to greet you and be sure you knew there is a WA Moms Group to join too!

Also, just had a small world moment realizing that you "know" one of my best friends both on and off this website, Sheila from Kentucky!! =) We were Div and PIR mates and have been like sisters ever since. Glad her Undes Group was helpful and there for you when you needed it! :-)

Katie was home for 2 weeks before she left for Sasebo. She had purchased a laptop during A school and downloaded all her music onto it. Her brothers/sister gave her a DVD holder so she would have something to take her collection in that was compact. Katie took her sea bag (shoes & covers, some civilian clothes), garment bag (carried most of her uniforms), computer bag and back pack (w/ID, passport, purse, papers, etc.). Her cell phone that she got during A school was a month to month which ended once she left the country. Katie flew from Detroit and I was able to get a pass to stay with her at the gate. Then it was Chicago to Tokyo to Fukuoka (sp?) and then a bus to the base. Since the Essex was out to sea, her sponsor was not able to meet her there. Katie flew in civilian clothes - which is what they are suppose to fly in for international, as she was told. If he will be arriving before mid-october, then the ship will still be in port since it is SRA right now. Katie did take some yen and had a credit card already. Her cell now is a plan that she can communicate with those on base while she is on ship while in port. Katie purchases calling cards from the NEX or uses someone elses phone to call, but we don't get phone calls very often. I know a lot of sailors have Skype or google talk, but Katie hasn't set herself up for that. I don't have a microphone or camera on my computer anyway. Hope I answered some of your questions.

Hello! Looking forward to Thursday right? Yippee! I saw that your son is going in as undesignated and I read what led him to that decision. Just wanted to say to you that my oldest son ended up going undesignated also - in 2008 and he is soooo happy! I just wanted to reassure you. It gives them time to look around, decide what they want to choose later on. I hope to see you at PIR!

Well, nevermind, I see your son's name is Blake and his graduation is week after my sons, so I guess they're not together. I just finished reading a really good book called Honor, Courage, Commitment-Navy Boot Camp writtten by J.F. Leahy. I am not really a reader, but my brother(who also has two sons in service) recommended it, and it was very informational. It takes you there week by week, and comments from recruits, and what to expect, from beginning of paperwork, shots, physical training one and two, inspections, classroom learning and the drill halls, learning of sailors trades, the service week, and the warrior weeks, all kinds of stuff, the Ricky crud(sick), to doing what they call the gas chamber. It is a very good book, and benficial, and helps me to understand the Navy talk a little better and to know where about my son is in that week, so I can ask him about certain things in my letters to him. Anyway, I highly recommend it. Kerri

Hi Wamom,
I hope Blake is doing well. I dont think it is any easier having 3 in. I would say Kurtis is the hardest. But i know he will do great. Kurtis says he is doing a job did Blake get a job? Kurtis says he was doing laundry and is now doing watch.

Hi: I talked to you week ago or so. Both our son's are from Spokane. My son's graduation date is Aug. 28th. He is ship 6, division 941. What is your son's? I've received two letters so far and a 10 minute phone call on Monday. It was good to hear his voice and know he was okay. Talk to ya later Kerri
