Hey Lukes mama, Does his page actually say "pending"? Or are you at the "No decision has been made" ? Either way, it is 4AM on Thanksgiving morning and I got up to set out the turkey( which still seems frozen solid) and naturally had to come check...

I am sooooooo jealous. and THANKS ALOT HANKSMOM! Now we will all be checking it every 20 seconds. Those turkeys will just sit frozen in the sink, no potatoes will get peeled or mashed. Yams will be ignored and pies go unbaked. And it is all your f...

Let's try to think this through! If EVERYONE here is checking the Status Update site 10X a day and spends the rest of their time thinking about checking it--then wouldn't we all be considered normal and therefore sane? OR Is it that we have all ju...

Texas has this terrible and badly thought out rule (thank George Bush) It is the 10% rule. It means that TX high school students who graduate in the top 10% of thier class (class rank) are guarenteed a spot in a Texas state college. It is really s...

Ok, I have officially cracked up. I checked the Application Status before I went to bed at 2:30AM and again when I woke up at 6:45 AM. Would a person in touch with reality really imagine that somebody from the Navy is up between those times postin...

Congratulations! You all must be so excited! I know that the waiting seems endless but there's just nothing you can do but endure it. Mmmmmm, kinda sounds like the nine months of pregnancy! :-)

Writelefty, I'm so sorry that it has taken me so long to get back to you. With the tragic deaths of the cadets from Sarah's unit and then having her home for the weekend and transporting her back and forth, my life's been crazy! First, I want to tell you that I'm a native Texan! I was born and raised in Houston and spent my high school years in Nacogdoches of all places. I moved to Missouri to go to college (33 years ago) and stayed. Also, New Orleans was one of my favorite towns too and I am so sad about all that has taken place there. My husband and I celebrated our 25th anniversary there--great memories!

Now on to ROTC stuff. :). Once you've filled out one ROTC scholarship/Academy application the rest are a breeze. They all basically ask for the same information so I don't think filling out the AFROTC app will be too stressful for you. Also, the medical exam is the same regardless of the branch of service though standards/requirements for acceptance do vary somewhat. The Department of Defense Medical Examination Review Board (affectionately known as DoDMERB) uses Concorde, Inc. to facilitate the process. Concorde will send you a medical examination packet with all the information you need to get started. Once you receive your packet, you have 6 weeks to complete all examinations. The process basically consists of filling out an application and medical history over the internet which you will then print out and take to approved medical and optical examiners in your area. Throughout the process, there is a website you can access to check the progress of your medical application and exam review. (I know, I know, more waiting and fretting!) I looked at the instructions on "How to list your Medical History" under Hayfever/Allergies and here's what it says: "List all seasonal or perennial (lasts throughout the whole year). If seasonal-what months. Effects of allergies, medications used to control, if any, how often medication is taken, ever suffered sinusitis (inflammation of the sinuses) and when. Example: Seasonal allergy to grass and pollen in spring. My eyes water and I get congested. I use Sineaid and take Seldane tablets twice daily. Never desensitized or had sinusits." They also issue a dire warning about being honest and disclosing everything but to my knowledge, they never requested a set of full medical records. Sarah had a synovial cyst removed from her ankle when she was 6 which I reported and they did request the pathology report on the cyst. If your daugher is generally in good health, I wouldn't worry about it too much. Even if she is DQ'd initially, there is a very good chance that a waiver will be granted after an additional exam and review if she is a strong candidate otherwise. I thought I was done with this type of thing and then Sarah sprung the "Maybe I'll be the first woman officer on a Sub" thing on me this weekend. Another highly competitive arena with an application process to boot. Surely it has to end sometime!

You're welcome! I do know exactly how you feel. I am a control freak and the waiting drove me absolutely crazy! Although Sarah was notified fairly early about the NROTC scholarship, we didn't receive final notification from the Naval Academy until early April that they were not going to grant her a medical waiver on her eyesight (after jumping through hoops with several additional exams) and then it took almost another month for the ROTC medical waiver to come through. By that time we were up against the deadline for accepting a full-ride academic scholarship to another school. I was a basket case! She had her heart set on being a Naval Officer though, so all we could do was wait. I'm still a little bemused by the fact that her eyes are good enough to be a Naval Officer, just not good enough for the Academy! She corrects to 20/20 by the way, she's just not a good candidate for Lasik surgery. Oh, well. God knows! If you will accept my friend request, I will send you an email and attach the document I referenced in my last post. You might try "copy & paste" ing the link making sure the period is not on the end of the 2010. I also found another presentation with the following dates. These are supposed to be the actual board dates. Note that they are just a day or so off of the previous ones. FY09A: 25 – August - 2009
FY09B: 29 – September - 2009
FY09C: 14 - October - 2009
FY09D: 3 - November - 2009
FY09E: 17 - November - 2009
FY09F: 8 - December - 2009
FY09G: 12 - January – 2010
FY09H: 26 - January – 2010
FY09I: 9 - February - 2010
FY09J: 2 - March - 2010
FY09K: 16 - March - 2010
FY09L: 6 - April – 2010
Also, as I understand it, a qualified candidate's package may go through several boards before it is finally selected. Don't get discouraged. Good luck!
