BOO YAH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I can't believe we have ONE week until we see our Sailors! They are going to be Sailors!! Wow! I am sooo way proud and sooo way excited to see him come marching into that hall in his dress uniform, carrying that flag! I am going to cry through the whole thing and I don't care who sees me! My husband will probably make fun of my raccoon eyes when my mascara is running down my face; but I don't care! :0)
I can't wait to see my daughter's faces light up when they see t…

Wow!! I can't believe that I am down to just 25 days until I see my son again! I am getting excited; but, still counting weeks and not days yet! :) Last time I spoke with him he was doing fabulous; so, I am hoping it is still the same! He sounded like my son and yet, there was such a different type of maturity in his words!
When I look at the 'newbies' posts now it seems like it was so long ago that I was waiting for just a form letter or that first call but it was just a little more time than I…

Wow~I was looking at another N4M's post and she started this great discussion about the Adopt-A-Sailor Project. I don't know about you guys but if I can't do for my son, I will do for someone else's! Besides,it makes me feel like I am active, busy and doing something when I have the least control over my own...hahahah
Anyway, what a great way to give back to our military! I chose two names tonight and even though it is 11pm I am on my way to Wal-Mart to find some things to send to sailors in Afg…

Just some info. I got from Navy For Dads...kinda cool to know what they are doing this week!
Week 3.
Reality check: This week, you’ll board a land-bound training ship. Everything will be hands-on — something your Recruiter told you the Navy is big on. Here’s the proof. You’ll learn everything from ship nomenclature to first aid techniques to semaphore (signaling with flags). All the real-world lessons you’ll need to survive in the Navy world. Classroom studies will focus on Customs and Courtesi…

Hooray!~I got my first real letter from Colby today! He must have written it on Saturday June 21, 2009 because the first couple of lines tell me he was so happy and that it made his day to talk to me that day and that Saturday was our first real phone call so I am sure it was on that day that he wrote it. It took until today to get to me though!
He said he was doing ok and that it wasn't as hard as he thought it would be; but, again that was the end of P-Days so the sh*t hadn't hit the fan yet!…

I just visited the Recruit Training Command website again and read it more thoroughly and one of the FAQ was, 'How often will my recruit be able to make phone calls?' This is their answer:
Recruits are only permitted to make three phone calls home during their time onboard Recruit Training Command. However, no news is good news as recruits are granted additional phone calls if something goes wrong (i.e. they are injured, do not pass a test, etc.).
So, I am not going to focus too much on that an…

Well, I am into week three of this hurry up and wait game. I have received one 'real' phone call and no real letters, just the form letter and bank information. I carry my phone with me constantly and answer every weird number...and yes, it makes me angry when it is a sales call and not my son! haha
I can't wait to get my first letter or another call just to see how he is holding up. I really pray for him every day that all is well and he will make it through this. He is a bright and strong youn…

I got my form letter in the mail today~!!!! 9 days after he left!!! I knew it wasn't going to be much but just seeing his handwriting on the envelope made me soar! He had to fill in the blanks...cute...but he did write a VERY short note ont he bottom. It read: "Hey Mom, it's Colby. Basic isn't as hard as I thought it would be, yet anyways. I think it's going to get a lot harder, but I don't know. I love you all and miss you very much." There's a brochure included too that has the motels listed a…

Yesterday, Saturday the 20th, 2009, I got Colby's
first REAL phone call home! They had finished P-Days, 6 days into it and he was chosen as the guidon so he was rewarded with a 2-minute phone call home! This is what I remember of the conversation (I was so excited that I think I may have forgotten something!) It's true that you have so many questions and then when you hear their voice you forget all that you wanted to say~!
'Hello'
"Mom? Mom?" (I must have paused in my shock!) 'Hel…

After a very emotional weekend, I put Colby on the plane headed for Chicago on Monday between 1 and 2pm. He had quite a long layover at O'Hare and then was bussed to Recruit Training Command (RTC) to begin his nearly 9 weeks of basic training (BT). I was told that he would be able to make one phone call home to let me know he made it but @ around 8:30pm his Uncle Ron called to say that Colby had to call him collect because the phone card I provided didn't work. I found out today that the phone c…
