Can you fail BC?

I'm not sure about the swiming test but I do know that he will not fail just because of his baseline PT exam they do atleast one or two more before the end of BC and he just has to make sure to pass the last one. They also do give another swim test if they need it. But I'm not sure if failing one part would qualify him as a fail.

I failed things in BC, such as the run. They give you second chances, several of them.

to clarify, a person can fail there aseline pt test, 73 percent of dep recruits who go to boot camp do, they must show improvement in phase 2 and they must pass with sat scores phase 3 pt in order to graduate.

if a recruit fails the swim test, yes they can be sent home from boot camp and discharged from the navy, although this is very rare, a kid who cant pass the swim test, or the float, will be sent to the pool more then a person who can swim, he will be in the pool one on one with a private swim instructor. they teach kids to float and swim for a living. i am sure he will be fine, and you have nothing to worry about. tell him to work on his push ups and he will make it.

If your sailor doesn't pass his PT by his PIR date, he will be put into a FIT division. In FIT all they do is work on PT. My son had a problem with passing the run portion of his PT and ended up taking an extra week of boot camp. The Navy wants him to suceed. They will help him as much as possible before throwing him out. Most recruits are able to get into shape by the end of boot camp and the Navy gives them every opportunity to suceed as long as he keeps working hard and improving.

my son had trouble with the swim part, but they helped him with it and he passed, so they will help them. Good luck to him bc

Also remember that unless you got the news by phone, the mail news is already older information. I have faith in your recruit.

We had made all our arrangements to go for the ceremony for completion of Boot Camp, when we got a message on the answering machine from an unknown guy. Found out later, our Sailor had gotten a friend of his who could make a phone call, call us with the message that our Sailor would not be graduating, was being sent to the FIT squad. I freaked. Called the Recruiter, called Great Lakes, Called anyone I could think of. When I called to cancel the reservations, the guy at the Hotel said it "happens a lot", which didn't make me feel any better. Eventually, the recruiter was able to get information that basically said Our Sailor had failed the run portion of the test. NOW that didn't come as too big a surprise, since he was never very fast. Anyway, what was the most upsetting to me as a Mom was I was unable to talk to him, to give him the MOM talk, the talk about trying harder, not giving up, that kind of stuff. We had been getting mail, but that ended to. We went approx 2 1/2 weeks before we got a collect call from him. I think the only reason they let him call, was because it was Thanksgiving. Regardless, he was very down, very discouraged. He had been in a ceremonial type of group for the beginning of Boot Camp, and he considered himself a real failure. He did not like being with the group that he now found himself with, mainly because many of the people wanted OUT of the Navy, and had done something to help that along. There was nothing we could do but pray. Approx 4 weeks after he would have finished Boot Camp, he went for his trial again. He had been very close, several times. This time, someone involved in "training" told our Sailor to just follow him, he would pace him. That is what happened, Our Sailor finished the trial, and passed. Then he had to go to Battle Stations, which he passed. What a happy phone call we got! He was so excited. Had been assigned to school in Chicago, so basically passed Battle Stations, and had to report across the street all in one day. I'm telling you this because it is upsetting to be the parent, with no way to communicate except thru the mail. Your Sailor has time to get in shape, and rest assured, the Navy wants him to succeed. You have to hope that he has the personal "stick to it", to keep trying. All of this happened 3 1/2 years ago, and as I write this, Our Sailor is returning from a 7 month cruise in the Pacific. I am very proud of him! Remember, the time he is in basics is the worst time for you. Things will get better!

Lisa, I worried too with my son but it all turned out well. It's only week 3. Trust me on this, the Navy really does want them to succeed.
