Navy For Moms

On July 31, Adam graduated from Power School in an outdoor ceremony in Goose Creek, SC. We stayed in the Villas at Foster Creek, which are on the base. What a nice place to stay, it was actually an apartment with 3 bedrooms, 1 full bath and two half baths, a kitchen, dining room and living room...along with a laundry room. All this for only $65 a night! The ceremony was awesome and Adam looked so handsome in his dress whites! After the ceremony, we went to lunch and then back to our place for cake. We went to Isle of Palms on Saturday for the afternoon and it was so nice. Adam was on hold in GC until August 25 when he drove to Ballston Spa, NY for his prototype training. This is his final phase of training. He is excited about being in a new area and actually getting to do, in training, the job he will have when he is assigned to the fleet. I am so proud of my sailor! He is already talking about the possibility of re-enlisting. He is thoroughly enjoying himself, I think he definitely made the right decision in joining the US Navy!

Lynne, Great stuff ! What a proud moment for you, your family and your sailor; one that we hope to share on the 25th of this month. The Villas are full so I'm looking to rent a condo at Isle of Palms. Any Base, ceremony details or intinerary things that you enjoyed and would like to share?

Congratulations mom and to your sailor! These pictures bring back the memories of my son's graduation from GC in Feb. He has been in Ballston Spa since then working to complete all the required qualifications. Its a long, long tunnel they enter, but I think he's finally seeing the light at the end. We are all anxious for the next level--and I can't wait for his next leave! Best Wishes to you all!

One important thing is to get there early. It is outside and the chairs are set up on the level ground, so you want to get up close. They do allow folks to come down to the stage area and take pictures when the ceremony is going on. As you can see, dress is business casual, some were in jeans and some of the ladies were in dresses and casual pants. My son's graduation was on July 31 and it was HOT!! Take into consideration the weather. It is not quite as formal as PIR, but is still a formal ceremony. There is such a feeling in the air at any of the graduation ceremonies and I will always remember how special they are. My son was so proud of the certificate, after all, they worked extremely hard to get to this point! He arrived in Ballston Spa on Wed. of last week to begin prototype. He and his 2 roommates found a fully furnished 3 bedroom house in Saratoga Springs, which is just next door to Ballston Spa. (There is no base housing.) He said it is beautiful country up there and he really likes it. He is anxious to get started on this next phase, has 2 weeks leave before it starts. Can't wait to see how he likes the winter up there, he grew up in SC and we hardly ever have snow here. He's in for a treat!
