Navy For Moms

My daughter is in bootcamp. Her husband just got out of the Army on disability. I found out last night that my daughter has been being physcially abused by her husband. What I need to know is there daycare available to soldiers wherever they are stationed at the hours they will need it?( I plan to confront my daughter with what I have found out and try to have some options available to her.) I of couse would be willing to come and get the baby for when she is deployed. I am so devastated over this and need some help!

Sorry to hear of this.

No on the daycare. Daycare is set up by the individuals, it is not provided by the Navy. While there may be facilities on base, they are privately owned. While still in boot camp there is no way to know where she will be stationed, and until that time, no way to know what services will be available. Deployment is not the only concern; she will also have duty days, and will not always be able to take time for appointments and such. When she divorces, she will have to submit a Family Care Plan outlining who will take care of the child when she has duty, etc. Single parents don't get special treatment, it is very much a struggle for them.

Good luck with her situation, she has a hard road ahead.

There is day care on the base..but my experience was it was always filled and waiting list. Each command has home day care list, you can get from an ombudsmen. In order to do day care out of you on base housing you must get certified through the base. I have always done this and you can really find some good people this way. Some of the people only baby sit certain hours so duty days will still be a problem. There are a few that do it all time day night. It is rare for those but they are out there. You just have to look. Still is a problem for Dr. appointments and being deployed. She has to show the Navy her family plan for these times. Best of luck to you and your daughter.

bjish,
i would talk to someone at a center or hot line on the best way to approach the subject. i don't know how you found out about the abuse but am guessing it wasn't from her?? It's really hard for some women to come to terms about the reality and danger of abuse and if they have a child that's also a risk for her too. hopefully you can talk to her and give her some support if leaving him is something she is willing to do. having a plan in place when and if she chooses to do so as she's going to need that support. if you want to talk more please feel free to msg. me or add me as a friend, i have had family and a good friend who have been thru this, thankfully 2 left and are happier for it, one is in a bit of denial and won't leave, she has an infant daughter. so i know the frustration. take care!
i agree totally with alueok on the weapons deal, you don't know what he's capable of and do you know why he was discharged? does he have their child?
