Navy For Moms

Well it looks like Bootcamp graduation is only 2 weeks away and I have a Grad and Go? My question is can I bring her a present? Ipod? book to read on the plane? IF she is a Grad and Go will she be able to leave the base and go out to eat? Is there places on the base to take her to eat? What can you tell me to make this event more special for her?

Grad n Go....my son was that back in June. If your daughter will be going to school in GL, it really isn't grad n go as they just have to check into their new school and then they pretty much get the weekend. If she is to fly out, I can tell you about my experience (although each situation can very). After PIR ceremony, we ate lunch with our son on base and they have this place that has fast food there (Pizza Hut, Taco Bell, etc.). We only spent one hour with him as he had to go pack and ride on the bus with the other sialors going to the same airport. We raced to the airport to meet him. Follow the sailors to the counter and tell them that you are with a sailor that has already gone through security and you'd like a pass to meet her. They will check your IDs and give you a pass. She won't have her cell phone, so youneed to come up with a meeting place. I would suggest the USO room. Then, we ate dinner with our son and waited at his gate until he boarded the plane (for us- it was only a 30 minute wait). I have read on here that some people have had more time than that though. You can bring a bag full of carry-on stuff for her. I brought my son's cell phone, MP3 player, some toiletries (as I didn't know if he'd have them given to him when he arrived late). Some magazines might be nice to include in the bag. As long as your present can fit in the bag, it should be fine. She could open it at the airport in front of you. Even though you will not have that much time with her.....PIR is AMAZING and so worth the trip! Best of luck to you and your sailor!
