Navy For Moms

Sandy

Letters/Letters Division 243, Ship 14

We finally received the form letter (postmarked 5/19) and a one page letter neatly written (all caps) by Travis (can't read the postmark) on Mother's Day. Travis left Phoenix for GL on 5/8/08. His recruiter told us that because it was 'Mother's Day" that Sunday, he might be able to call. I wish the recruiter wouldn't have said that. You can imagine what Mother's Day was like at our house. Dad, Jared, trying to make this a happy day, doing all the traditional things (Breakfast in Bed, before church. handmade cards from one son), staying at home, jumping up and running to the phone each time it rang... Today's a really good day, tears, relief, joy, all mixed together. I'm going to savor and enjoy these feelings, so they can see me through the "lean" times. I'm also pleased, that I've finally located two other mom's who have children in the same Division and Ship as Travis. I was getting worried when other mother's were making connections, and I couldn't find any. Thanks to everyone for their help, support, and information. Special thanks to Joyce. She's so supportive to everyone, but she has been a new navy mom mentor to me, and "held my hand."

Navy Moms are the greatest - always ready to lend a hand or shoulder as need be. It is even more fun when they come from within your division - such a connection!

Now that you have received your first letter, it gets so much easier - we lived for our mail on Thursdays. Consistently each week we would get a snapshot of life at boot camp. You will be making plans for graduation before you know it!

Yea Sandy! Those 'ALL CAPS' just cracked me up every time I got a letter - it either looks 'official' or Kindergarten, hee-hee:)! I was just oblivious and didn't realize there was a 'letter day' - he's never been a writer so I didn't ever expect one, just HAPPY when one showed up:)! Hugs to you:)!
