Shirts!
OK Moms - as some of you know, I send Danny a "silly question of the day" that usually relates to something I've read on this site and don't quite understand. Lately, I've gotten confused by all the references to "my son is a greenshirt" that I've been reading around places. So that was the silly question I sent to my son, and I thought it would be interesting to share his response and give us all a little bit of an education:
Question sent by me: "You're an AT3...let's see: you made Petty Officer 3, right? and also plane captain so your name can go on the plane you're responsible for? What's the difference in you and an ABE? What is a greenshirt? Are you a shirt color? ;-) LOL - this e-mail ought to make you giggle for awhile!!! I'm determined to understand the Navy!!! Love you honey!"
Danny's Response: "Me and a ABE...I am a Brown shirt. The difference is I am a plane captain - I handle the planes - ABEs run all the equipment and such for the planes like drive the cars and run the power carts...Green shirts are maintenance workers...Blue shirts are the ABE...Yellow is ABH...Red are Crash and Salvage and AOS...Purple are ABF. Love you!"
Maybe that will help shed a little light on our confusion. Let me know if you have any silly questions you want answered - my son for one is always willing to answer me!!!

Here is one
If ABF (Avaition boatsmen mate Fuels) is Purple and they call them *Grapes* for a slang term
What do they call the other shirts (slang)
I believe that green are called *greasers*
But I have no clue on Yellow, Brown, Red, Blue :) And I would LOVE to know !!
So there is a silly (slang) question ~~~ I am a totally slang nerd ! LOL LOL

Comment by Jeanny Garrett on October 24, 2008 at 1:21pm - That is too cute...Zach always just says Mom I wish you had entered the Navy..some of this is hard to explain....LOL okay if my son doesn't answer I will definitely ask you...thanks :) I just sent Zach a text this morning trying to figure out what he is referred to and I learned it was IC which is another abbreviation I don't necessarily get, but hey I learned something new...all these moms on here seem so up to date on everything..me i still spend all my time asking Zachary what did you do today which he explains, but I don't get the technical end of it...

Jeanny - I've learned that between what I can find out on the internet and my "silly question" e-mails to Danny, there probably isn't anything I can't figure out given enough time. Hmmm, I had a boss once who told me I was in the wrong line of work - he thought I should be a detective! LOL

IC is Interior Communications and that is a snipe(engineering ) rate :) Is your Sailor an IC ?

My son is a "greenshirt". He is an Electronic Diagnostics Technician. Now exactly what he does, I don't have a clue, as he is not allowed to discuss it with us. I think I can figure some of it out just by his job title, but I know he does quite a bit more.
Thanks for all the info everyone. I never did get the jargon, and never had anyone to ask, that would answer me anyway......;-)

- LOL - Danny is a brown-shirt because he's a Plane Captain. He says they call 'em "turd shirts!!!" Guess I have to get used to things like that in the military, but my baby is NOT a turd!!!! hehehe

Ok so we have the green shirts are greasers
Yellow shirts are cheerleaders
Brown are turd shirts
Purple shirts are grapes
Now all we need is the others !!
