Navy For Moms

As I sit here writing this, I'm FB chatting my with my stepson, who's at his mom's. Asked him if it was okay I joined this, since I am the step mom. He said he was, "kind of touched and honored" that I wanted to. It's really started a great conversation and he knows how proud I am of him and how much I love him, even though I didn't bring him into this world. :-)

It's wonderful that you are here to support him - the more support a new recruit he can receive the better - especially if the families have a good relationship and can share information with each other.

A delicate subject that you may want to discuss before he leaves is...who does he want at his graduation? He is only allowed four guests and sometimes we see upset families when it comes to those tickets. He will be sending home a box with his clothes in it and sending a form letter with his division address. If he sends those to his mom's house - will they share that info with you? The only communications he will be able to receive are letters so you will want to get that address asap.

Good luck to him and welcome to the Navy family!

Thanks, Mary. I just learned this overnight and forwarded that info to his dad. Also, good point about the box. I'll make sure to talk with his dad about it.

teachergirl,,,My husband, stepdad to my son, also signed up for facebook. he said, "Facebook is going to be the best way to keep in touch with him while he is in the Navy." I am just so happy that they will keep in touch. I think it is just wonderful that you and your stepson are so close too. It is just really a great thing. Congratulations, best wishes and many more years of communication between the two of you!

We're on FB, and we have skype. I bought him and his dad matching computers with webcams for his dad's birthday and his graduation (same weekend). I'm gonna miss him bunches! When he's too busy to come over for couple of days, I'm missing him. This is going to take getting used to. The older boys were off at college, and not to far away for a pizza night or something. This is going to take some getting used to. We will, I'm sure, after reading posts on here.
