Navy For Moms

Yesterday's letter from boot camp was the best one yet! There are now only 3 weeks left to go until PIR and FINALLY I am getting some answers to the burning questions I've had swimming around in my brain. I couldn't be happier with how well Jillian appears to be managing boot camp. Are you all ready for this? Jillian PASSED HER 2nd PFA! And she can now do 25, read it, 25 pushups! Not only did she meet the minimum requirement for a 20 year old woman, but she surpassed it by quite a bit! If you've been following my blogs from the beginning, she could hardly even do 1 just two short months ago. This has been a major anxiety of mine and now I can put it to rest. I am so incredibly happy for her about that. You could just feel the excitement in her words. Big, big smiles from this mom. :-) I can't wait to tell her recruiter - he has been nothing but encouraging to her from the beginning and he will be so happy to hear this.

She's also doing very well with her written tests and is very busy with her duties as Port Watch. I really think she is quite enjoying the responsibility. She said she couldn't wait to get dogtags (for some reason, she was intrigued with the idea of having "real" ones), but she says that although she thinks they're cool, they are annoying when running and sleeping. I don't think she realized that they have to be worn 24/7, 365 days a year. Her division is now officially in week 5 and that means they will be working hard to make up an extra week of training lost because of the extended P-days.

Still no phone calls from Jill and I've kind of given up on that for now. But.....I was relieved to read that Jill did sign up for the Adopt-a-Sailor program for Thanksgiving and she says that she will be adopted by someone random. That's good. We will miss her terribly as this will be the 1st Thanksgiving ever that our family will not all be together. But its also good for Jillian to experience the kindness of strangers and this will be a growing experience for her. And for sure we should be receiving a phone call from her then. Plus we'll see her the following week for PIR!

And last but not least, Jill told us to make sure we bring dress clothes (like something you'd wear to church) because she says she has some sort of surprise for us at Graduation! I cannot even imagine what it could be, but I am getting way excited now!

I can't believe she is actually DOING THIS!!! Sometimes it just feels so surreal and I am going to wake up at any moment and discover it was all a big, crazy dream.

Congratulations. Hearing from our sailors is a true blessing.

PS: One of the first things we did after PIR was to buy Joe "silencers" for his dog tags. LOL

www thanks Patty. Glad you liked the post. I really liked it too :-) We have to keep our sense of humor! I am so impressed with your daughter. How proud you must be. I remember reading your blog about how worried you were about the push ups at first. And now look at what she has accomplished through hard work and perseverence. My daughter called me today and it was the best thing ever. I can hear the change in her, and I got to make her happy today by telling her that her dad and I will be flying from Alaska to watch her PIR on 12/24, Christmas Eve. The best news is she is grad and go and gets to come home with us Christmas Eve for the holidays. You could not wipe the smile off my face if you tried. Kelly is avionics too and will be in Pensacola beginning in January. It would be nice if they met and became friends :-) Here's to struggles that make us stronger, both our daughters and ourselves as mothers. Letting go is the hardest thing I have ever done in my life, much harder than giving birth, harder than the first shots, harder than letting her go on that first date alone, harder than even teaching her to drive! But if she can do it, I can do it. For my daughter, I would walk through fire, and this Navy life is what she has chosen and what she wants with all of her heart, so I will do what she needs from me. Hugs to you! Connie PS Kelly got dog tags early due to an allergy and for some reason that does seem to be a big deal to them. LOL...go figure, instead of diamonds and jewels they want dog tags! :-)
