Navy For Moms

Well, he's gone! It was a tearful goodbye for all of us! But it was so good! The recruiter picked him up here at home but then his dad and I went and had dinner with him in the hotel and that was the final goodbye. We heard from him last night that he was there and would write when he could. My confidence is not in the US Navy - but in the God whom I love and trust! We know that this will be so good for our son - I think his older brothers are envious as they had both wanted the military but because of asthma couldn't. Life is certainly changing - it's supposed too! I went in his room for something yesterday and had a moment of tears - he left things very neat and orderly. We'll be packing up his stuff and putting it away (the few things he left out) he was sharing a room with his 2 other brothers. Anyhow, thank you all for the prayers and thoughts you are sending our way! We are proud to become a part of the Navy family!

Our son left on the 3rd and we still have not heard from him!!!! I have slept so lightly by the phone and do not put it down. What is going on that some get to hear from their loved ones and others do not!!!

If he first went to MEPS then he will probably be leaving for Chicago? My son left on the 27 to MEPS spent the night there the next day he flew to Chicago and then called us that night (morning) around 12:30am.

He was taking a flight straight to chicago from SA suppose to arrive in the evening and I was informed by three seperate military personal that he would be able to call us that night. I am so happy for you, if you are anything like me it must of been torture not to hear from him for that long. I would be able to sleep if I heard from him. I do not want to miss his call so I do not even go to the bathroom with out my phone. I am furious with the people that I have talked to because they should have not told me one thing and it not happen. I would have made him take a cell phone so he could have called from the airport in chicago. (he is a young man but he still is mine)

Ladies,

I know exactly what you are talking about for I recently went through what you are feeling. My son left on 8/11 and graduated from boot camp on 10/9. The 8 weeks seems like it takes forever, but truthfully when I look back the time does go fast. The first letter came about a week & a half after he left and got the next phone call around week 4. The last week & a half were the hardest, waiting for the call stating that he passed Battle Stations and is now a United States Navy Sailor. Once the call came in (10/6) it is the most wonderful phone call and feeling that you will have. Keep your chin up and if you need any questions answered, please feel free to contact me.

P.S. Please do everything in your powers to make it to PIR (Graduation) for it was wonderful and you wont want to miss it. AWESOME!!!!

Hi Ladies,
Well I was in the same boat. My son has already PIR on 10/30 and it was awesome. Well when my son went in on 8/29 I did not hear from him except for the phone call mom I'm here and sending home my stuff. He was held up because of processing and he was changed from one division to another. We were given an address from the recuriter so we wrote to him and heard nothing. So I went to the office and found out that it was different. As soon as we sent letters to new address we heard. If they do well sometimes they get to call home so keep your cell phone close and take it everywhere you go. My son got my letter the morning of Battle Station and he said that it helped him get through it. So keep up the letter writing and you will hear from him soon. God be with all of you and your sailors.
P.S. Make plans to go to his PIR and if you want to fine cheap airline tickets try southwest they have a new hub in Milwaukee and it is only 45min. drive to Gurnee/Waukegan, Il which is only about 5 miles from the base.
