Hooray!~I got my first real letter from Colby today! He must have written it on Saturday June 21, 2009 because the first couple of lines tell me he was so happy and that it made his day to talk to me that day and that Saturday was our first real phone call so I am sure it was on that day that he wrote it. It took until today to get to me though!
He said he was doing ok and that it wasn't as hard as he thought it would be; but, again that was the end of P-Days so the sh*t hadn't hit the fan yet! hahaha BUT I am soooo glad he went into the next couple weeks with a great, positive attitude rather than starting out miserable right!
He said the food was 95% good and "the RTC's are tough but I think they are really great at their jobs!" He said he missed us and loved us so much and to make sure to write and he would write when he could. His handwriting was amazing! It has always sucked really bad; but he said, "and yes, this is me writing, we have to write in recruit handwriting!" Hahaha Then he said he had to get to bed and to remember that HE was my favorite child. :) He signed it, "Your one and only son."
I am not going to lie; I cried! When your 18-year-old son in basic training writes that it made his day to be able to talk to me and says, "I love and miss you Mommy," it would make anyone shed tears of joy, right?!
It was only about 3/4 of a page long and is written on Official Navy Letterhead and the envelope is a Navy envelope too; so they must let them buy it or they give it to them.
I was just sooo happy to hear from him that I didn't mind that it couldn't be that long of a letter...my Independence Day weekend is going to be one of walking in the clouds again!
Praise God! I got a letter today!
