Navy For Moms

Hello again, Navy Moms (and other Navy loved ones)!

Did you know that posting something as simple as a name or an innocent photograph can threaten lives and missions thousands of miles away?

Thereʼs been a good bit of discussion on N4M about safe and wise posting in our forums and blogs – particularly as it relates to operational security (OPSEC) and privacy for our Sailors and their families. We know you’re eager to share news about your Sailor, but it’s important to keep in mind that any bit of tactical information on the Internet can be used to interfere with military operations.

To help you get a better understanding of how you can continue to be a responsible N4M member, we encourage you to watch this brief video from two experts responsible for keeping our site – and our Sailors – safe.

Dave Linabury is the SVP Social Media Director at Campbell-Ewald. He’s a nationally recognized blogger, a frequent speaker and panelist at Internet conferences, and has done in-depth research on internet safety.

Senior Chief Tom Jones is the Public Affairs Officer for Navy Recruiting Command, and has 18 years of experience in Navy media, including photography, videography, journalism and public affairs.

After you watch the video, weʼd love to know what you think! Sound off by sharing your thoughts and any other suggestions you might have!

I've been on Facebook too much; I was looking for the "Like" option to click.

Me too :)
I thought there was good information that a lot of people wouldn't think about normally.

THIS IS GREAT! I am techno-challenged, so did not realize how a cropped picture could be "revived" in its entirety. This should be posted at the top of your welcome page.
I would like a flag type option in case we see something we question as regards security.
Thanks!

When I first got on here I had pics of my son up & was told (nicely) that I should remove them since he is going Spec. Op.- SEAL. I did so without hesitation after I learned why. I also tell other newbees the same thing b/c @ 1st you just don't know! Also he evidently has been told the same thing & said to me DO NOT put my pic on here--anywhere!
