Navy For Moms

I just recieved my daughters bag she took with her to boot camp & I'm baffled! We followed the very strict guidelines given on what she could take with her. Most of her stuff was shipped home, right down to her under garments! Is this normal? She left on November 3rd & it will be a miracle if I don't chew off my hand by the end of the 8 wks!!!!

When I got Niki's box back everything she had bought to take with her was in it. We also went by the list. Well after being on this site for awhile I have found that basically all they keep is a wallet, debit card, and maybe a couple of personal items such as possibly a bible. We went everywhere trying to find the right kind of bathing suit for my daughter and yes you guessed it, the darn thing was in the box when we got it back.

It will seem like such a long time and it is a rollercoaster of emotions but just hang in there and if you have questions or just want to talk or vent please know that you could come to no bettter place than NavyforMoms.

My daughter was to graduate 11/25 but hurt her ankles so now I am in limbo waiting for her to get back with a division and get another PIR date.

Good luck to you and your daughter. You both will do fine!! Even though Niki has only been there for one month I have already found that she is more resilient than I thought. Prayers are with you.

Vpgal ...Here too...We followed regulations also and everything we sent w/ my son came back. Including the pre-stamped envelopes (which i thought would help) I did later ask him why and he said...When you get there and your being YELLED at and you are rushed and its confusing so everyone just throws their stuff in the box.. all of it. She will get everything she needs so dont chew your hand off you'll need it to write LOL...She'll be fine ..and so will you ...good luck to both

My daughter (Cassie) made it to Great Lakes Wednesday night. The box with every single thing she took was sitting on my front porch when I got home from work Friday night. I live on the West Coast. They certainly didn't waste any time. I got her address from the recruiter and mailed her a three page letter. I sent her address to friends and relatives. I would imagine Cassie would like to receive a little piece of home in the form of a note or card. I miss her already.

You'll meet a lot of mom's whose kids have shipped in early Nov. and some mom's waiting for advise from us whose kids will ship later in Nov.

My son also left from the west coast on Nov. 4. we haven't received anything yet! He had said 'I'm just going to throw away my clothes'! I told him 'DO NOT DENY ME THE BOX OF DIRTY LAUNDRY! All the moms get a box of laundry! You can't keep that from me!' He basically took nothing with him. After I read the post from DianeB I ran out to the front porch to see if there was a box there (it's Saturday here). No box from him. Just some other empty potato chip box one of my other kids left out there! (don't they know how that affects me?!) It is great to hear from you other moms - I find myself thinking of him throughout the day wondering 'what is he doing right now'? I read a good 'day in the life of a recruit' post here on Navyformoms and that gave me some relief of my anxiety (until I began reading here tonight!) My recruit is #3 of 6 kids - #3 boy of 4 boys - he's the only one to go into the service. I keep quite busy here w/4 kids still at home, 3 kids still in school - but I miss my boy so much! Maybe some of our kids will be graduating together and we can meet at graduation! Keep in touch and keep the support flowing!!!! To be honest with you, I'm really not worried for my son too much - I'm trusting in God and His plan for my sons life! BUT - I do have to fight the anxious thoughts! 'Take them captive' so to speak. Keep in touch and keep the support flowing!!!!

I remember the box, my son went to boot camp over a year and a half ago, it was kind of like a death box, i didnt like it either, i thought it was so sad when i already missed him so much. Just write to them all the time it helps! Helps us moms and them

I got my box today. He didn't take very much - they didn't send back very much. I talked w/his recruiter yesterday and got the address - so we've written him a few letters. Anxious to hear when his graduation date is so that we can make our plans.
